Life after Helsinki 2007 Eurovision

Now as Iceland has withdrawn from Eurovision song contest at least in 2026, let's have a look of some Icelandic favorites of mine over the years. Starting off with Euroband's banger that is one of my all time favourite and sure to put me in the mood anytime in seconds!   Iceland - Hatari - Hatrið mun sigra ***** What to say? This in the league of its own. Like it or not, it won't pass by unnoticed. However it's not really new to Eurovision as Lordi and AWS have already brought something similar sounding to this stage even if in different genre. And that look and cloathing have been seen already many times, usually on females though and rather as sexy than going this extreme and sex shop attire. This is a real Performance rather than a song and this can go either way; a total flop or a contender for victory, even if I think the song itself isn't strong enough unlike Hard rock hallelujah for example. This could also be the most divisive entry come voting jury/televoters as well as full marks/null.    Estonia - Victor Crone - Storm *** Another song were I have the feeling the song and the artists don't connect. In this video we don't get to see the special effects that are there so it all seems rather bland. Victor...

Kate was the first one to reach the iconic Eurovision frame for a photo   D Mol took adventage of a day off and visited Jerusalem...  ... as did Joci .  Who photobombed his photo??!! Nevena enjoyed the scenery, too....   Sergey instead enjoyed the morning and Tel Aviv beaches...   Lake Malawi boys did so, too...  ... after their special morning cappuccinos!   Kobi took a walk from home to the local mall to check a gigantic himself.... We have seen it all at Eurovision over the decades. Or so we think until someone brings something unseen before to the stage. This year it is Australia. We've had people on sticks and monocycles, but never before the artist herself on a swinging pole. Thumbs up to Kate!  Little drummer boy brings us back to 2004-05 era. Heaven & hell told by a monk. Flying above it all.   From angel to beast in 30 seconds. Storm. Never a dull moment in this 2nd half, is there? Opens up like a flower. Pretty in pink, vol.2

Middle table continues with songs I kinda like but don't know how to place them really.... Iceland - Hatari - Hatrið mun sigra *** Hatrið mun sigra  Evrópa hrynja Hate will prevail And Europe’s heart impale The most talked about, award-winning, anti-capitalist, BDSM, techno-dystopian, performance art collective, a political, multimedia project Hatari is maybe what PKN was for Finland (rather than Lordi). Kind of a protest by the voting population against bad success in the contest. And this could as well end up the same way. We will see. They are Klemens Hannigan and Matthías Tryggvi Haraldsson with masked drummer Einar Hrafn Stefánsson and they have been around since 2015 causing commotion. Graphic designer Ingi Kristján Sigurmarsson, video artist Baldvin Vernharðsson and costume designer duo Karen Briem and Andri Hrafn Unnarsson are also part of the team. I must add I hated this at first but now kinda like it somehow, even if this is a bit Ram...

Hatari has won the Icelandic national final with Hatrið mun sigra beating Friðrik Ómar in the superfinal. It's worth noting the two songs in Icelandic songs are on the top. Hatari is Klemens Hannigan, Matthías Haraldsson and Einar Stefánsson.They have released one EP and a number of singles. Hatari is known for their live shows, including their BDSM-inspired stage costumes and they describe themselves as an "anti-capitalist BDSM techno performance art group" and claim the group's primary aim is to bring about the downfall of capitalism... and apparently they have some antisemitic ideas, too, and intend to create some chaos in Tel Aviv..... 1. Iceland will select its entry for Eurovision song contest 2019 tonight. After two semi-finals and one wildcard granted (Kristina) five songs will battle it out in Reykjavik. First round will be 50-50 televote-jury and the top-2 will have to face another round with televoting only. True Eurovision veteran Hera Björk is back again, as is Friðrik Ómar of Euroband fame. Both come with dated ballads, well performed but dated and not extraordinary. Then there's 2 minutes of noise pollution in from of Hatari trying to scandalize and provoke but it's only waste of everyone's time in my opinion. Give me Rammstein instead any day! Wildcard Kristina brings some joyful vintage uptempo to the contest but needs to improve a lot the performance and staging to make an impact. Whoever styled Tara should take a long look at the mirror. Her harmless little song stands out for freshness among these very mediocre entries. I really don't know who's going to win and anyone can do but I...
