It happened again. A big flat zero point. This year it was quite unexpected and surprising one: Olly from United Kingdom and his Dizzy. Zero points from the televote. I don't think anyone was expecting that!
But how often we do get zero points scoring entries these days? Last year we had two in semi-finals: Romania and San Marino in televoting. Two years ago Azerbaijan scored zero from televoting in the semi-final and but qualified anyways! In the final Germany scored a zero from jury, Switzerland from televote.
Then we come to the crazy year of 2021. Where to start? United Kingdom scored a big flat zero from BOTH the jury and the televote! Now try to repeat that!
As that wasn't enough also Czechia got a zero in televotes in the semi-final....
In 2019 Austria scored zero in semi-final with televoting. Germany did it again in final's televoting while Israel did it with the jury. At home.
2018 was calmer. Only Iceland scored a televoting semi.final zero.
2017 again gave us a jury zero in semi-final for San Marino as well as televoting zero for Malta.
In the final it was Spain's turn to get zero from the jury and Austria scored zero in televoting.
2016 only Czechia scored a televoting zero in the final
2015 only Austria scored a televoting zero in the final. At home!
2012 France scored a televoting zero in the final.
So, somehow these zeros are quite concentrated on same countries,.United Kingdom, Germany and Austria have collected three zeros, San Marino, Spain and Czechia two.
Romania, Azerbaijan, Switzerland, Netherlands, Israel, Iceland, Malta and France one each.
That makes a total of 9 for the Big5 countries and additional 6 for countries that have won and hosted in the past years. Even three host entries have scored a zero. Quite funny and remarkable.
And listening to these entries there's no logic. Somehow it just happened. In the end one could be 11th in each and every jury, televote and country out of 26 or so and still finish with zero points.
That's Eurovision!
