Back from holidays, two weeks avoiding internet and Eurovision sites made me positively surprised when I finally saw the names in the Euroviisut 2011 list. As I predicted earlier "six of them I have never heard, four of them I know by name and two I know" turned into four I never heard, two I know by name and SIX I know! Pretty amazing!
So, we will have two Tango Kings, Marko Maunuksela and Tommi Soidinmäki, Milana Misic as expected to underline Finland's and her late mom's debut 50 years ago, Jonna, ex-Technicolor front man Jimi Constatine (I already had Technicolor in my wish list a couple of times when they still existed) and TV music quizz show host Sami Hintsanen in the "I know" category. Then we have Johanna Iivanainen and Automatic Eye in the known names category and only Soma Manuchar, Eveliina Määttä, Paradise Oskar and Stala & Co. in the Who are they? category. Sounds like a good setting, especially there's actually not one big name enough to stirr up the "(s)he's the winner" speculation just because of his or her name.
Eveliina Määttä, Paradise Oskar, Stala & Co. and Jonna were picked up by YLE from the open contest directly to the semifinals, the other eight were chosen by YLE and record companies.
These twelve will be joined by three qualifiers from the open internet selection where another 15 hopefuls are already to be listened and voted and it features also several familiar names; Christa Renwall, Tony Green aka Topni Ruohonen, Paul Oxley, Sara Aalto, Chorale and Blackbird. Listen them here.
I will dig deeper into the semifinalists on later date and will present the 15 internet hopefuls shortly so stay tuned.
