Good news for all Alice fans. In an interview in occasion of her concert in Verona Folk earlier this month she confirmed she's planning a new pop album to be released already in 2011! It's about the time, too. Her latest pop album with new songs is Exit (1998). She's also working on a new tour that deals with the concept of time. She says she will sing on that tour also songs from the early 1980's, songs that she hasn't performed live since. But don't expect to hear Messaggio, the only song she admits regretting a bit. On the other hand she is again singing Per Elisa live. "It reminds me of a particular period and it has a good energy. And no, it doesn't talk about drugs as often written. I knew at the time drugs existed but I never was in the crowds where they were used. I wouldn't have enough experience about the matter to write about it. Nor do I now for that matter!" she laughs. "But it is very interesting to see how lyrics can be interpreted in so many different ways. I must admit my interpretation when I wrote the song was much duller!"
She also talks about her public that seems to be mainly 40-50somethings but recently in her concerts there have been also a lot of young people. "The youth today listens to what they are told to listen. Then we have those who search and they find the other music. Most today don't know David Sylvian or Peter Gabriel either for that matter! The age of my public has never been of my interest and isn't even now." Once again she also is asked if her voluntary move to step out of the spotlight has harmed her career and she says every withdrawel brings something else. Despite all that she is still here, singing live and making records and having fans and that's all that matters. She is doing what she wants to do, the way she wants to do it. "I was never confortable in TV shows and in all that celebrity world. And the photo shoots - a torture!" she tells. "On stage I'm in my element and I enjoy it but all the rest is not for me. You can see it in the 1980's clips, once the song is finished I just want to escape the cameras!" she laughs again.
In this concert she sung 1943, Dammi la mano amore, Febbraio, La recessione, Anin a gris, I treni di Tozeur, Chanson ego-centrique, Il sole nella pioggia, Le baccanti, Tempo senza tempo, Contatto, Nomadi, Non insegnate ai bambini and finally Per Elisa and Prospettiva Nevski. A great success and a confirm Alice is BACK. (Like she never was gone....) Full interview here (in Italian).
