Here we are, after 300 songs and 88 artists we have the top-5 as voted by the listeners of Iskelmä radio. The most loved songs by (schlager) Finnsof the 2000's.
1. RAKKAUS ON LUMIVALKOINEN - YÖ
No wonder this was voted the best song knowing Yö's popularity and this song must pull all the right strings also in non-fans: dramatic and melancholy playing with the patriotic tunes with "for a little moment love is snow white" and such. Calculated or not but a great track anyways. Has become popular song in the funerals so is this the Finnish Angels by Robbie Williams??
2. KAKSI PUUTA - JUHA TAPIO
Juha Tapio won the Emma award last year thanks to this song as the best male artist. His career has been steadily going higher and higher and this might be the culmination where everything falls into place. Or has he something better still coming up? The lyrics of this song are pure poetry that make you think with its story about two trees that grow and stand in the rain and storm strong and may look apart but slowly quietly have grown their roots together under the ground, like the best of relationships. Just a few days ago he was the People's choice in Iskelmä Finlandia 2010.
3. KUN KATSOIT MINUUN - ANNA ERIKSSON
Another megahit from Anna. Still played on radio every day it seems. Originally from 2001. I think she should rerecord her biggest hits in English and release that album abroad before the new material in English as these songs are just so good and full of hit potential!
4. PAUHAAVA SYDÄN - LAURI TÄHKÄ
One of the best Finnish songs of the 2000's in my opinion and I would gladly change this with Yö's number one - what an Eurovision entry this would have been in 2007!! Lauri and his band have released seven albums since 2001 and each have sold gold, 5 platinum, 2 double platinum and their 2007 album with this quadriplatinum! Also their DVD has sold gold and so have two of their singles, a real rarity these days! They have also won countless awards over the 2000's. The band is also remarkable by having a strong image and look, as well as a strong identification to their own region, including the look and dialect. They have made Ostrobotnia media sexy in Finland. And the lady violinists ads to their unique sound - way before Dima Bilan's and Alexander Rybak's violins....
5. KAIKKEA HYVÄÄ - SIMO SILMU
Simo is Yölintu's vocalist and has released also 2 solo albums and this is his first and biggest solo hit. A very sweet song I am a bit surprised to see so high on this list but then, it is a good track. His debut in 2004 sold platinum, next one gold and third one... well no metal. But Yölintu still goes strong!
