REMEMBERING SIRIMA

Sirima who, you may ask unless you are Jean-Jacques Goldman fan. Here is her tragic story in a few words:

Sirima was born in the United Kingdom of French mother and Sri Lankan father on Valentine's Day 1964. At 18 she moved to France and started singing in the Paris metro stations, usually Gare de Châtelet - Les Halles. A few year's later Philippe Delettrez, who played in Jean-Jacques Goldman's band noted her. He also knew Goldman was looking for a female duet for his song Là-bas. He recorded her voice and took it to Goldman who got interested and went to see her in the metro Barbès. He was impressed and wanted her as her duo partner. The song become a huge success (#2 for five weeks and nearly 600.000 copies sold). Sirima was living at the time with Kahatra Sasorith , an unsuccessful musician. He became jealous for her success and killed her with kitchen knife on December 7, 1989. he was about to release her debut album A part of me. Sasorith did four years of prison and was expelled from France but is back living there today.

Cèline Dion and Natasha St-Pier among others have covered the song but in my book Sirima remains the best.

I have known Sirima personally. I first met her on the underground, Chatelet. I was a student at Paris Val-de-Marne. Everyday I would come and see her sing and as soon as I would arrive, she would sing, " Imagine" by John Lennon for me. She was like a little sister. I used to bring her Darjeeling tea, curry powder etc from UK. We would always sit and drink tea or coffee together before I would go home. When people would approach her trying to leave her their business card and so on, she would send them to me saying that I was her manager. I loved and appreciate her so much. I was so saddened to learn of the way she died. I knew she had passed away cause my cousin told me. I went to live in UK in 1987, so I lost touch with her. I found out only today that she was killed and that she has a son. If ever Kym reads this, " your mum was such a beautiful person with a great heart. She touched my life in many ways. I will never or get her and will always remember her with love." Take care. XXX

Sirima was a beautiful singer - her whole family are wonderful people. Her mother, Aunty Edith, is raising Kym. I knew her before she went to Paris, I knew her family very well. I wish them nothing but peace and love, and Sirima - I hope she attained nirvana.

To my unborn child! I’m 8months pregnant and I have love the featuring “la-bas” with Jacques Goldman so much that I wanted to know this young beautiful lady until I found out of her passing and the tragic story of it! I’m forever in love with that song and as I met my Prince Charming. We married and are expecting our little girl who going to be named after Sirima. There’s a story behind that. After knowing about her and the name Is not far from a word in my African tribal Language Sirima meaning attachment, togetherness (just like the way me and hubby are) the central aspect of our love. You see, we are from two different world both Africans but completely different culturally and religiously and we met in NYC and with all the challenges and obstacles from our background, we are able to finally be together in the eyes of our families respective of their views for our union. We are able And ready to welcome our blood and flesh into this world and that is such a wonderful feeling. Plus the name is truly unique so I’m forever grateful to God for knowing this Sirima and for the love of life. Thank you

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further? No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

CAROLA'S BOOBS STEAL THE SHOW, SVT APOLOGIES

Update! Another thing got Swedes talking last night: Carola's boobs when she was giving away an award. This is not the first time her boombs cause headlines; her misfortunate adventures in the 80's in Japan wer explained with her boobs being too big for Japanese market. Ok.... Or was it the song ? Anyways, Carola apologies and says she thinks the dress is stylish and elegant (even her friends said so) and she's a mature woman in her 40s, not a 16-year-old girl and looks like one. SWEDEN: LOREEN GETS NUDE WITH BODY

Loreen. A legend for some. A one hit wonder for most. Since winning Eurovision song contest 2012 with Euphoria she has released seven singles. None of them has left the mark really. Her third attempt in Melodifestivalen this year with Statements ended up in a real defeat. Now she's ready to finally release her second album Nude in August. The lead single is Body . GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local. The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist, as a journalist, as a delegation member. EUROVISION 2024: THE GRAND FINAL TONIGHT - WHO WILL WIN?

Let the drama come to an end with a peaceful way. Let's pray! In the odds (at 6pm) Croatia is still leading with 43% chance, followed by Israel (22%), Switzerland (14%), France going up with 4%. All the other % are 4 or lowers so I won't add them here. Ireland is steady at 5th, followed by Ukraine and Italy dropping, Finland going up to 8th place (!!!), Greece steady at 9th, Uk, Sweden, Norway and Armenia going up next, while Lithuania and Austria going down. Georgia steady at 16th. Spain and Cyprus going up and Estonia steady at 19th. Then Germany and Latvia going up, while Slovenia going down at 22nd. Portugal and Luxemburg going up while Serbia has dropped to last. So, quite a lot of movement there up and down. I still stick to my fixed idea since November 2023 of France winning followed by Israel, Ukraine, Croatia, Switzerland and Italy in random order. EUROVISION 2024: THE DAY BEFORE THE FINAL - #JOOSTGATE, #DRAMA

The past 24 hours in the Eurovision bubble have been the wildest ever and I think I have never waited for the final to start this much in all decades I have been watching! I try to collect all pieces in random order - making it chronological at this point would be impossible already when checking news from social media and official news lets. Joost Klein and the Netherlands have been disqualified from tonight's final. EBU stated: "We have zero tolerance policy against inappropriate behaviour at our events and work to have a safe working environment for all employees." He already was absent in both yesterdays dress rehearsals. AVROTROS stated: "We have taken not of the disqualification by the EBU. AVROTROS finds the disqualification disproportionate and is shocked by the decision. We deeply regret this and will come back to this later. EUROVISION 2024: SWITZERLAND WINS WITH NEMO AND THE CODE

All is good that ends good. Israel didn't manage to win the televote being second to Croatia with 323 vs 337. Ukraine was third with 307 and France 4th with 227 and Switzerland 5th with one point behind. But Switzerland totally dominated the jury vote scoring 21 times 12 points and 365 total. France was second with 218 and Croatia 3rd with 210. Only nine countries manages to score 12 from the jury. Besides the 21 by Switzerland France 4 times, Portugal 3 times, Ukraine and Croatia twice and Luxemburg (from Israel), Ireland, Sweden and Cyprus (from Greece) once. EUROVISION 2024: THE SECOND SEMI-FINAL - THE DAY AFTER

OMG. What is going on? I was planning to do my usual day after post after day at work and write something about the bad behavior and bullism towards Eden Golan in the press conference by Greek Marina Satti and most of all Dutch Joost Klein. I mean, grown up people, is this an example you want to give? No wonder kids get bullied at school and social medias are so toxic. I get it when fans do it, as I have already lost hope on them and the youth, but you, adults act like that with your equal in a same table. Shame on you.
