PORTUGAL: WHO IS EUROVISION WINNER SALVADOR SOBRAL?

Salvador Sobral came, sung and won with his simplicity and emotional performance ahead of the pre-contest favorites and gave Portugal its first win in 53 years. But who is he?
"I hope my victory makes a change not only in Eurovision but also in pop music," he said. "If I can bring some sort of change to the pop music in the world in general, because people only listen to the music that is thrown at us from the radio stations, I’ll be more than happy."

"I never wrote  a song to be played on the radio stations, I released an album last fall nobody gave a shit about it. After this festival and this beautiful song people got to know me better, I guess it works this way and I’m happy the way it’s happened."

Salvador Sobral was born to a former noble family on December 28, 1989 in Lisbon. He has a sister, Luisa who wrote the winning song Amar pelos dois for him after being invited by RTP as a composer, thanks to her own flourishing music career.
Salvadot took his first step in the music business when he was 10 participating in Bravo, bravissimo, a television show for young talents.
Ten tyears later he took part in Idolos, the Portuguese Idol finishing 7th. Ironically he got eiminated in the episode of Portugues music after sailing through with songs from Michael Jackson, Leonard Cohen, Queen and Maroon 5,
He started studying psychology in the Instituto Superior de Psicologia Aplicada, and as an Erasmus student went to Mallorca where he started singing in bars. After that he dropped psychology and went on to study music in Barcelona and finished his studies in 2014.
In 2015 he took part in Vodafone Mexefest and EDP Cool Jazz and started working on his album Excuse me that was released in late 2016, with the title track being the first single. The album made it to #10 in the Portuguese charts and second single off it was Nem eu. His future plans remain unchanged as he told in the press conference. His touring Portugal in summer and prepairing his second album.
"I have a summer tour in Portugal, I’ll just continue with my life. This is fun, let’s not forget that you win today and nobody remembers you tomorrow,"

A national hero?  "It's an amazing thing, I want to live a peaceful life, maybe there will be some fuss at the beginning, but I don’t know if I'd call myself a national hero. If I thought of myself as a hero of Portugal it would be a bit weird."

"For a song like this to win, it is for sure, celebrating diversity. I think Eurovision is about the music and that's all I want to do. I just thought about singing my beautiful song the way it is, and it was not in English."
He spoke for the refugees in Eurovision saying:

"If I'm here and I have European exposure, the least thing I can do is a humanitarian message. People come to Europe in plastic boats and are being asked to show their birth certificates in order to enter a country. These people are not immigrants, they're refugees running from death. Make no mistake. There is so much bureaucratic stuff happening in the refugee camps in Greece, Turkey and Italy and we should help create legal and safe pathways from these countries to their destiny countries,"
PS: Listening to his album he and Raphael Gualazzi have a lot in common. Salvador did where Raphael failed - he lost to a plastic disposable music in 2011. Salvador took a nice revenge.

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

GREECE: HELENA PAPARIZOU HITS AGAIN WITH HAIDE

Eurovision song contest 2005 winner Helena Paparizou has been enjoying Top-5 hits every year since 2003 with the exception of 2010 and 2014, this latest one being already her 27th! And Haide is charting also in Bulgaria and Finland, of all places. The catchiness of her hits has changed less over the years than her face....  Here's the English version , below the Greek version.

TIM SCHOU AND HIS NAKED GRAVITY

Tim Schou has a pretty good solo career going since he left his friends in London. He's travelling the world and relesing songs and videos. The latest one is a great track and comes with a steamy video that kinda takes away from the song really. But who's complaining. If you got it, flaunt it. Enjoy the video below. This post coming after the other Dane, Rasmus Seebach as wishlist for Eurovision. To think about it, Tim would do nicely, too. Maybe he should give it another go?

ESC 2015 SERBIA: BOJANA GOES POLYGLOT AND RELEASES A NEW VIDEO AND REMIX

Serbian Bojana Stamenov hasn't been having beauty sleeps while prepairing for Vienna. She has just released a new proper video replacing the previous fans featuring beauty video , right after she has given us Spanish ( El mundo bajo mis pies ) and French ( Le monde est à moi ) versions of the song! And an Autobahn remix that is kinda fabulous! Busy girl! PS. I still think the original Ceo svet je moj takes the prize! Oh WAIT! There's yet another version: Die ganze Welt is mein ! And that's something else ....

ESC 2016 ARMENIA: IT'S IVETA MUKUCHYAN!

Armenian tv has revealed tonight the name of their artist for the 2016 Eurovision song contest in Stockholm. It's 29-year-old Iveta Mukuchyan. She has taken part in the Armenian Pop Idol finishing 5th in 2010 and she also did The Voice of Germany . In 2012 she was voted the Sexiest Armenian.  Armenian tv has made a call for songwriters all over the world to submit a song for her by November 13, 2015.  Let's see which direction the final choice will go, Freak or her latest release that you can hear below.... Whatever it is it will be an improvement from last year's fiasco.....

MALTA MUSIC: CLAUDIA FANIELLO - MILES AWAY

Claudia Faniello, one of the finest voices in Malta. Often compared to Ira Losco and known as Fabrizio's little sister but she has proven in the past ten years she's a star of her own right. She may have taken part in the Maltese Eurovision selection with 8 songs between 2006-2012 but not winning  (yet...), She came second with Caravaggio and Pure though. Miles away is a lovely pop tune with a hint of country. Check out also her latest video and self written song   You said .

EUROVISION 2025: THOSE WHO DIDN'T MAKE IT ALL THE WAY TO BASEL: BRUNORI SAS - L'ALBERO DELLE NOCI

This is my maybe favourite song from Sanremo 2025. Brunori was a familiar name to be beforehand but I wasn't so familiar with his music but L'albero delle noci hit home with the first hearing. Great artist, beautiful melody and lyrics, no gimmicks. But I never believed he'd end up 3rd overall and I was even more surprised when he told he would do Eurovision without a moment of hesitation and actually wanted to win because of that! And along with Lucio Corsi a great new artist for me to discover and like! The video btw stars his family, wife and daughter.....
