It's already ten years since the already iconic glass microphone aka the Eurovision song contest winner's trophy was first introduced. Being part of the Eurovision makeover to give it a recognisable image in every front from the logo that came around in Istanbul 2004 it finally appeared in 2008 and has been used since and become a very wanted item - a bit like in Italy the fabulous palm tree and lion in Sanremo and the Swedish Melodifestivalen songbird...
Before that the awards were whatever the hosting broadcaster fancied, like.....
... this one in Athens 2006 that travelled with Lordi to Finland, and was broken during the flight as Finnair insisted it must travel among cargo and not in the cabin with the band.....
... while in Helsinki 2007 Marija Serifovic got this piece of glass.....
.... quite similar to this one given to Ruslana in Istanbul 2004.... with additional piece of something flaggy....
... and the one Helena Papariozou got in Kiev 2005, along with the other piece..... it's worth remembering one award goes to the artist while another one goes to the broadcaster. After all, it's indeed the broadcasters competing - not the countries nor the artists really....
... Sertab's trophy in Riga was a bit more challenging.....
... while Tanel Padar's and Marie N's awards are quite similar, too
