Poland will have its final this Saturday and ten songs are in the running after two songs have been disqualified from the original 12. The Swedish Man Meadow return after their success last year with Viva la musica, and also Norvegian Det Betales and Italian Marco Bocchino have managed to get in. Unfortunately it is not a very interesting selection.
First of all there are three quite similar pop rock songs that I don't care for: Dali, Ira and Renton. Also Det Betales I just want to forget. Then we have Marco Bocchino & Ola Szwed with a typical anonym Italian pop ballad that could be featured in any Italian summer festival for new and up coming singers/songwriters without any success. Tigrita Project seems to be one of the fan favourites but I find it rather boring. Artur Chamski has quite interesting song with a very nice orchestration. Stachursky came last in the OGAE Poland voting. I wonder why? I kinda like his 80's disco number á la Gazebo's I like Chopin with very husky voices. Lidia Kopania won the same voting and she well deserves it with her beautiful power ballad and strong vocals. A quality ballad indeed. That leaves us with the Man Meadow. Their song is very Modern Talking and the chorus is even very similar to their last year's entry. But it is a good solid number and similar ones are often featured in various national finals all over Europe but they never win. It would be interesting to see how they would do in the main thing for once. This said, if they or Lidia win, I will be very happy. I can't see any other one doing it, except Tigrita Project, but I'm afraid they will fall flat on their face live just like Blue Café did. I loved the studio version of it, but live it was torture....
