ESC 2015: MEET JOHN KARAYIANNIS / Γιάννης Καραγιάννης (CYPRUS)

Giannis aka John Karayiannis (20) won the Cypriot national selection with One thing I should have done. Not everyone's favorite at first, not even by this blogger's. But, once I managed to stop comparing it to Lisa Andreas' Stronger every minute (same composer Mike Connaris, btw) and heard this fantastic remix, I was sold. One of the most underrated songs this year, no doubt.

John will follow Lisa's footsteps also by moving to London where she lives. He will continue his music studies and record his first album there after all this Eurovision is over. He has been also accepted to Berklee Collage in Music in Boston to study performing arts. Other than singing and writing songs he also plays guitar and piano. He also confesses being a huge Eurovision fan.
His music taste has moved from Eminem and Linkin Park to more melodic and softer music like Ed Sheeran and John Mayer as well as jazz and blues. In 2007 and 2008 he tried to get to Junior Eurovision, an experience that made him realize music is his thing. He's also a world class hardcore online gamer, World of Warcraft anyone?
His song has a relaxed melody, simple arrangement and the unusual middle section with a storyline where the ending is not the most obvious one.
As said earlier I wasn't impressed with this at first, having the lovely Lisa's song in mind which I loved. But then in the full line up this stands out and should easily sail to the final where all depends on his performance and running order. In the right spot this could go very far.... And rightly so! And in the end, these songs are very different in the end....

I nearly did everything for you
But I broke your heart, now mine’s broken too
In your hour of need, I didn’t come…..
That’s the one thing I should……..have done
