But just like with the lack of suitable arenas Italy has also a problem of suitable hosts for the simple fact the conductors must speak fluent English and quite a lot of French, too. Or, let me phrase it again: There are those who can do the job but it might take awhile before the audience and people in charge realize they can't put there some random Amadeus & Fiorello to attract home audience to the screens (Amadeus indeed has said he'd consider it) like they did in 1991 with Toto Cutugno & Gigliola Cinquetti. That was then, this is now.
The show must be hosted in English and a little bit of French, it must be aimed to the European audience, not the locals. Something that is very uncommon for Rai programming and thus maybe a bit hard for the Italian audience to understand, too. This said, I have no doubt they can pull it off and produce a fantastic show with worthy hosts, absolutely stunning opening and interval acts, beautiful stage and graphics because after all.... Italy is unique. It's art and fashion. And music. And all with local Italian talent skipping the annual Ebu's staff that travels to every city to stage the show, last time that happened in Helsinki 2007 I suppose? The contest has come home.
But let's talk about the conductors. The past three days I have seen about two dozen names mentioned (I concentrate here only to those who apparently do speak also English) but the one that pops up everywhere is 41-year-old Alessandro Cattalan. He has already a long career in radio and television and it's just a question of time when he does Sanremo. Could he do both in 2022? As possible male hosts another one could be Federico Russo who has already commented Eurovision. Other names mentioned are comic & television host Valerio Lundini and an Youtuber, actor and radio host. influencer and openly gay Guglielmo Scilla aka Willwoosh.
For the ladies there are simple too many names to list, but Camilla Raznovich, Carolina Di Domenico (Italian spokesperson this year), Ema Stockolma and Victoria Cabello could be worth noting not forgetting influencer Chiara Ferragni. I am surprised no one has yet mentioned Laura Pausini. She speaks every language possible, can host and could take care of the interval acts, too. She's been asked to host Sanremo and would have done it if she had had time. Is she available for this much more suitable job or is she busy touring the world next spring?
If we can't have Laura, what about Michelle Hunziger?
