EUROVISION 2023: ITALY - SANREMO 2023 QUARTA SERATA / FOURTH NIGHT

After three nights of proper voting tonight's the night I have never understood. I mean, they sing covers with guest stars and the votes and ranking effect the final results! Wtf?! Why??? Wasn't it enough just to hand a trophy to whoever wins tonight and get over with it. And talking about covers, I don't also get how some are allowed to sing their own songs, or even worse: medley of their own hits as a cover?! This night is total madness and makes no sense at all..... It should only make an entertaining evening to relax before tomorrow's final and pressure . Rant over.

And yes, the success continues: 57,6% share and an average of 9.240.000 viewers. The third night is usually the lowest as all the songs have been already heard. In these three days the Rai Sanremo streaming has increased 54% compared to last year with over 13,7 million views on demand.
Tonight's co-hostess is Chiara Francini. The guest is Euroviison veteran Peppino Di Capri, who will receive his live time achievent award tonight instead of yesterday as first announced.
La Rappresentante di Lista will perform at the outdoor stage and Takaki & Ketra aboard the cruise ship. And of course there will be the 28 guest performers along the 28 artists in competition listed below in their order of performance (and original performer).
Worth mentioning Elisa and Giorgia will belt out their Sanremo 2001 top-2 songs, Ultimo fishes votes with Eros Ramazzotti, Lazza with Emma, Grignani with Arisa. Shari brings Salmo, apparently her bf, Articolo 31 Fedez, Tananai Biagio Antonacci, add Carla Bruni, Paolo Vallesi, Alex Britti, Noemi....
Marco Mengoni plays the gospel choir and Beatles card.

Ariete & Sangiovanni - Centro di gravita permanente (Franco Battiato 1981)
As a huge fan I'm always a bit skeptical for these covers but after initial hesitation the kids did a good job, funny and rather entertaining performance. Huge applause.
Will & Michele Zarrillo - Cinque giorni (Michele Zarrillo 1994)
Will has quite special voice but in the end this song came together, too, and it's a classic. The theater loved this performance.
Elodie & Big Mama - American woman (Lenny Kravitz 1999)
Elodie showed she's a real sexy entertainer and belts out even rock with gusto. Big Mama was a good addition. But what was that handbag stealing again?

Enter Peppino Di Capri (83). Standing ovation for his life time achieved. 15 Sanremos with two victories.

Olly & Lorella Cuccarini - La notte vola (Lorella Cuccarini 1989)
Well, I do remember the original....... Meh.
Ultimo & Eros Ramazzotti - Medley Eros Ramazzotti
Eros 10- Ultimo 0
Standing ovation. For Eros. For a reason.
Lazza & Emma Marrone & Laura Marzadori - La fine (Nesli 2009)
Excellent. This is a hit in the makoing for Lazza & Emma, and Lazza plays to win tonight. (And not only thanks to these crazy rules)
Tananai & Don Joe & Biagio Antonacci - Vorrei cantare come Biagio (Simone Cristicchi 2005)
Tanani rules, and superstar Biagio Antonacci obeys. While theater goes wild! I guess Tananai secures his spot in top5.
Shari & Salmo - Medley Zucchero
Thumbs up she didn't invite Zucchero to sing with her but her bf (who happens to be a Big Name) and they seem to use the same hair products. Still not fan of her way of singing.
Gianluca Grignani & Arisa - Destinazione paradiso (Gianluca Grignani 1995)
Theoriginal version is fantastic but Grignani, the troubled badboy is a bit too chaotic these days, teamed up with his female alter ego, and even legendary Bebbe Vessicchio as conductor this was quite a mess. But people love his as we saw in the televotes last night. Sigh. He should have ruined someone else's song tbh.
Leo Gassmann & Edoardo Bennato & Quartetto Flegreo - Medley Edoardo Bennato
Sadly Bennato totally overshadowed Leo into backing singer status. But at least he looks good and sing well, sometimes it's just not enough.
Articolo 31 & Fedez - Medley Artoclo 31
I never listened to them so this medley for me was just noise. Did they ask to legalize marijuana?
Giorgia & Elisa - Luce (Elisa 2001) & Di sole d'azzurro (Giorgia 2001)
Two fantastic voices and their songs that placed 1st and 2nd in Sanremo 2001, when Elisa was a new fresh name and Giorgia already a veteran. These days they're friends and colleagues who support each other. This is maybe the best top-2 ever in any Sanremo. Standing aovation for a reason!
Colapesce Dimartino & Carla Bruni - Azzurro (Adriano Celentano 1968)
Ex-First lady Carla Bruni, who is fo course Italian and has recorded a couple of very nice albums joins those lovely Sicilians with a real classic song. What's there not to love? The whole audience clapping and singing along, let's see if this materializes also in votes to help those guys to climb again the ranking!
i Cugini di Campagna & Paolo Vallesi - La forza della vita (Vallesi 1992) & Anima mia (Cugini 1973)
Two songs, one that I have lived in first person, loved and cherished and brought back many memories, the other I have heard a zillion times as it's a real classic. This was a good nostalgic number. As these covers tonight should be.
Marco Mengoni & The Kingdom Choir - Let it be (The Beatles 1970)
Standing ovation for Mengoni again, that was ecstatic, spiritual, orgasmic. He is so winning this festival. Chills.
Gianmaria & Manuel Agnelli - Quello che non c'?e (Afterhours 2002)
Gianmaria was a little help to Manuel who owned the stage.
Mr.Rain & Fasma - Qualcosa di grande (Lúnapop 2000)
I love this song, I was there when it exploded and met the Lúnapop guys, too, so there's a special feeling to their songs. Mr.Rain and Fasma made a good version, different and current without making it too different or changing it too much. I like.
Madame & Izi - Via del campo (Fabrizio de Andre 1967)
Now that was very nice, I liked that.
Coma_Cose & Baustelle - Sará perche t amo (Ricchi e Poveri 1981)
Ok, the song that made me learn Italian and eventually emigrate. Yes indeed, a long story. Covered a zillion times. Quite similar, rockier version yet modernized and slight different way of putting the verses work. Will do.
Rosa Chemical & Rose Villein - America (Gianna Nannini 1979)
Another song I know so well, having been a huge Nannini fan back in the days. I think it was better then....Long live sex! And love! And freedom!
Modà & Le Vibrazioni - Vieni da me (Le Vibrazioni 2003)
Two rock bands singing a standard anonymous rock song. Yawn.
Levante & Renzo Rubino - Vivere (Vasco Rossi 1993)
Another rock ballad. Renxo invisible, just playing the piano.... Useless.
Anna Oxa & Iljard Shaba - Un'emozione da poco (Anna Oxa 1978)
Like Grignani also Oxa singing her debut hit that is fantastic song originally. But it's not a cover. And this was .... an experience.
Sethu & Bnkr44 - Charlie fa surf (Baustelle 2008)
Errrr.... no.
LDA & Alex Britti - Oggi sono io (Alex Britti 1999)
Another song I can say I was there when it happened, a very nice song and very emotional Alex when people start to applaud him, and sadly he steals the show from LDA who's anyways having the time of his life.
Mara Sattei & Noemi - L'amur toujours (Gigi D'Agostino 1999)
Noemi's entrance was epic but then this kinda went downhill.
Paola e Chiara & Merk & Kremont - Medley Paola & Chiara
Ok, another one singing their own songs but in this case I think it is justified somehow, as this is the comeback after many many years and it's worth remembering the string of hits they had and changed the Italian music a bit.But I*m not totally convinced Chiara is feeling this comeback 100% like Paola. But it was nice to hear the songs again.
Colla Zio & Ditonellapiega - Salirò (Daniele Silvestri 2002)
I was there when this song became a hit as well. This cover was a bit useless though.

Let's hear now the results...... ( I am falling a sleep any minute now.....)
Mengoni's win seems already pretty sure
Surprisingly there aren't a lot of changes this year. Giorgia gains 5 places, Paola & Chiara drop 3, Articolo 31 climb 3 as does Leo Gassmann but for the rest the changes are same or 1-2 places up or down.

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

NO AMOR IN ICELAND FOR ÁSDIS MARIA

In Iceland Söngvakeppni Sjónvarpsins 2014 started as well. Five songs in the running and two were voted to the final: Gréta Mjöll - Eftir eitt lag and Gissur Páll Gissurarson - Von . To be honest I'm not very suprised about the choices even if I was hoping for Ásdís María Viðarsdóttir - Amor to make it. The people of Björk didn't warm up to that enough, sadly. Also Sverrir Bergmann - Dönsum burtu blús and Vignir Snær Vigfússon - Elsku þú are out but that's ok. Or maybe I would have sent Ásdis Maria with Vignir to the final....Oh well. Next week another five songs and two qualifiers.

BLOGILKAR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: HANNAH MANCINI

Straight into interview with my Bycycling reporter Robert goes American born Slovenian represent Hannah Mancini. The chatty lady tells us how she ended up from LA to Slovenia and how it is. She does also some serious name dropping. Talks about Slovenian music business. And has her husband turned into an Eurovision maniac?! And how Slovenian does she feel actually? And who would she like to grace the Eurovision stage for Slovenia again? Read it all here: Thank you Hannah for this interview. You're an American woman singing for Slovenia. How on earth did you end up there? I married a Slovenian man! Actually he lived in the States when I met him. I always loved the idea of living in Europe and it was kinda perfect as I met an European man! And he always wanted to come to Europe, his parents emigrated when he was a small child so eventually when the opportunity came, he had a good business thing happening there and also I had some music contacts in Amsterdam and in the UK an

CAROLA'S BOOBS STEAL THE SHOW, SVT APOLOGIES

Update! Another thing got Swedes talking last night: Carola's boobs when she was giving away an award. This is not the first time her boombs cause headlines; her misfortunate adventures in the 80's in Japan wer explained with her boobs being too big for Japanese market. Ok.... Or was it the song ? Anyways, Carola apologies and says she thinks the dress is stylish and elegant (even her friends said so) and she's a mature woman in her 40s, not a 16-year-old girl and looks like one. The Swedish Oscars, Guldbagge awards were given out last night. Carola was there as a guest star to sing Barbra Streisand's The way we were when honoring the movie stars who passed away during 2012. However, the cameras were too much on Carola, not on the stars showed in photos in the background and that upset many viewers as that part of the show was to celebrate them, not Carola. Oh well...  The producer of the show tells in Aftonbladet the part of the show was made the sam

FINLAND: CONGRATS HANNA PAKARINEN - BABY IS COMING!

No more leave me alones as Eurovision 2007 veteran Hanna Pakarinen has published in her Youtube channel a video unboxing the Finnish state's maternity box aka layette set thus announcing she's due to have a baby later this spring. Congratulations!

Summer songs: Kylie Minogue - On a night like this

This is one of the songs that make me think of sweaty summer nights, humid air and being slightly drunk... I wonder where that all comes from? Anyways. Kylie Minogue recorded On a night like this, maybe not first but better than Pandora or Anna Vissi . And Lord which is actually great!

SWEDEN: LOREEN GETS NUDE WITH BODY

Loreen. A legend for some. A one hit wonder for most. Since winning Eurovision song contest 2012 with Euphoria she has released seven singles. None of them has left the mark really. Her third attempt in Melodifestivalen this year with Statements ended up in a real defeat.  Now she's ready to finally release her second album Nude in August. The lead single is Body . It's... well, like her previous stuff. Okeyish to listen to when it's on but completely forgettable once it's finished.... Pretendious comes to mind. But then maybe I just don't get her. Maybe I never did. Her fans are surely euphoric. Maybe.  Listen in Spotify
