Australia is back at the Euroviison for the eight year counting the cancelled contest in 2020 and last year when they remained home and participated with a video, and failed to qualify for the first time. This is only third time Australia chooses through national final having trusted internally chosen artists and songs the first years. Quick listening these songs one spontaneously thinks maybe it was better to stick to that formula..... But let's go:
Andrew Lambrou - Electrify **
Ok, this is a sort of club anthem. Also in Spanish, which gives a nice touch. But thinking of Turin wouldn't Italian been a bit more original and useful? Sadly the song isn't going anywhere and has no beginning nor end but endless flow of the same for 3 minutes.
Charley - I suck at being lonely **
Very much in line with many songs in the national finals, especially in 2020-2021 seasons. Also this one is not going anywhere really, but could get some life to it live? On the other hand I may again not be in the target group as I certainly don't suck at being lonely. I'm not lonely, and especially I don't suck at being alone.
Erica Padilla - To the bottom **
She is a wildcard from a TikTok contest. Somehow very American sounding and that's not really a compliment in my books. Again ** as also this one's not going anywhere but being quite pleasant yet completely forgettable.
G-Nation - Bite me *
I suspect they are some fierce ladies on stage with a lot of sexy moves and flying hair. The song is totally unoriginal and uninteresting. Heard a zillion times before and usually better and catchier.
Isaiah Firebrace & Evie Irie - When I'm with you ***
This would have been fresh and exciting sometimes in the early 1990's? I kinda like Isaiah's voice but thi sin't very good. It gets an extra * only because I actually do remember something about this after hearing it twice.
Jaguar Jonze - Little fires ***
I didn't like Rabbit hole at all but here she's back and delivering the best effort so far. The song starts, develops and reaches climax like no other.
Jude York - I won't need to dream **
Starts off like any random Disney lullaby, and then changes to something else. Disney anthem. I don't know....
Paulini - We are one ****
Now we're talking! 80's Italo disco and a lot of Flashdance/Fame soundtrack with added disco diva. Great ingredients in this cake but the final result is a bit burned I'm afraid. But easily the best one so far!
Seann Miley Moore - My body *
Starts mildly interesting but then comes the chorus and it's a No for me. Yawn. And it just gets worse. A very long three minutes.
Sheldon Riley - Not the same ***
I don't know what to say. At least I stopped to listen, but is this very good? No, but among these songs maybe one of the better ones. If he nails the live performance maybe a winner, and somewhat decent finish in Turin. But with a big Maybe.
Voyager - Dreamer ***
Wasn't this the first song out? At least it was the first I heard and I was like Ok, whatever, not so good. But now.... After hearing the rest this is one of the best ones. Annoying enough to leave a mark, and the sound differs from all the rest here. And at Eurovision in Turin so far.
