Tu bije serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję ("The heart of Europe beats here! We choose the hit for Eurovision"), that's the name of the new Polish national selection for Eurovision and for reasons very evident I didn't write it on the title bar. A new name and change of heart as they were going to select internally first but then all of sudden announced a national final. Ten songs in the running, and 50/50 jury/televote will choose the winner.
To make things great there will be five hosts and seven guest acts including Polish Eurovision and Junior Eurovision entrants plus one Eurovision winner: Ell & Nikki. Nice that someone remembers them, too. I guess.
Among entrants Lidia Kopania, the Polish 2009 entrant with a song co-written by ever trying Ylva & Linda Persson in any random open eastern European selection and usually never reaching the final stages.
Krystian Ochman, The Voice of Poland, first rumored to have been selected internally both last and this year is among the contestants and The Favorite. Let's see.
Ania Byrcyn - Dokąd? **
Okeyish ballad sung in Polish makes it more interesting.Just not strong enough to stand out.
Daria - Paranoia ****
This is so shamelessly pop and heard a million times before but this works and Daria's voice ads a strong layer to the final product. If this was played on radio I'd stop for a moment and ask myself what is this?!
Emilia Dębska - All I need **
Quite a standard ballad with added beats. Not a very good one. The best part comes in the end, the last 30 secs. Too late.
Karolina Lizer - Czysta woda ***
Well, at least this is different! I almost enjoy this one. Judging the live video I saw I'm not very hopeful this will shine on stage though...
Karolina Stanisławczyk feat. Chika Toro - Move ***
Ok, I am or was a huge fan of reggaeton/Cubaton but ... This isn't one of the best ones. Besides we already have Spain sending something much better. Probably this will find its way to my summer playlist but right now this leaves me somewhat unmoved.
Krystian Ochman - River ****
Usually I'm a bit stand-offish to the big pre-contest favorites but I guess this time fandom might be right. Not that I'm crazy for this song but it has qualities. It also has a lot going on so I wonder how this will be live. Oh right, recorded backing vocals are allowed again. I forgot.
Kuba Szmajkowski - Lovesick ***
La, la, la works always doesn't it? Or does it? I may like this more than I really should. Recalls some Italodisco things fo yesteryears. But usually sung by some lady with a big voice.La, la, la.....
Lidia Kopania - Why does it hurt *
Nothing really wrong with this one really, but then again there's nothing special about it. Totally forgettable and unoriginal. In every way possible. Lyrics, music, arrangement, production. No effort.
Szlachta Sisters - Drogowskazy ***
There's a nice hint of old school disco in the backing track, just a hint that makes this somewhat melancholy sounding song with retro vibe a very nostalgic one. I have a feeling this will grow on me come summer playlists.
Unmute - Głośniej niż decybele
This "song" is basicly a prime example of "music" I hate. I wish never ever to hear this again. Is that video even the song? It can't be, as I believe the current rules of Eurovision have a must for lyrics. So, this one gets zero stars.
