CyBC announced 17-year-old Silia Kapsis as their entrant on September 25, 2023 and the song Liar was made public on February 29, 2024. And isn't this a curious case! This is 12th Eurovision song by composer Dimitris Kontopoulos. And it is basically more or less the same song that took part in the internal Greek selection in 2023 then sung by Melissa Mantzoukis, who wasn't pleased with the outcome and filed a lawsuit against ERT. And yet, the song is here now.....
Silia Kapsis is an Australian singer, actress and dancer born in Sydney to a Cypriot father and a Greek mother. She's been performing since she was 4 and has already a lot of international experience with the Australian Youth Performing Arts Company among others. She has acted in a short film and done some television, too.
Her debut single Who am I? came out in 2022 and she has since released three other singles prior to Liar.
So, what do I think? Liar is a flashback to yesteryear's Eurovisions. Sounds kinda dated and heard before and the staging will be most likely the typical young girl dance group choreographed standard. And there are many also this year. In short this isn't dated enough to be already hip, just same old.
In our Home Jury no one was impressed and Cyprus scored a string of mediocre 5's.
