After Ukraine's win at Eurovision song contest the president Zelenskiy congratulated the winners on Instagram and welcomed everyone back to Ukraine next year.
Our courage impresses the world, our music conquers Europe!
Next year Ukraine will host Eurovision!
For the third time in its history. And I believe - not the last.We will do our best to one day host the participants and guests of Eurovision in Ukrainian Mariupol.
Free, peaceful, rebuilt!
Thank you for winning @ Kalush.official and everyone who voted for us!
I am sure that our victorious chord in the battle with the enemy is not far off.
Glory to Ukraine!
This is all we hope and pray for but at the moment it looks very unlikely. The Eurovision 2023 preparations should start as soon as tomorrow as usual but the thought it beautiful and will lift the spirits, I hope, of those still wrapped there under Russian bombardments and fire. The fact that Mariupol maybe didn't have a suitable arena etc even before war to start with makes no difference.
It's heartbreaking to think those Kalush Orchestra gyus are returning home and by Wednesday they are back at front or other services to help and defend their country to survive. Usually winners het a triumphant homecoming at the airport, start a promo tour and enjoy their success.
Meanwhile solidarity comes across Europe and apparently already BBC and RTVE have stepped forward to stage the show. Add city of Stockholm, Poland's TVP and Iceland's RÚV. Add even Italian Rai. Some Italian fans have come up with the idea that in case the winner can't/won't host the previous host has to do it again. No. It is also rumored Germany is interested and that the hosting would have been offered to Finland if only we had an arena; Helsinki's Arena is closed and unused, as it is owned these days by Russians and under sanctions. Tampere has a new huge arena hosting the ice hockey World champs at the moment but Tampere lacks hotel rooms and proper airport.... I don't quite buy this bit of rumors....
