Bääbs has been busy prepairing for Euroviisut 2010 and various newspapers have run interviews with her but Sue magazine put her in the cover of their 15th anniversary issue! And rightly so. Bääbs came from nowhere and qualified as one of the three songs from the open contest on internet for the Euroviisut 2010 semifinals joining the invited artists. Here's a bit of the interview in Sue.
"I don't know really how it all started. We were speculating about Euroviisut I guess and soon a Facebook group Viola Euroviisuihin was born. In the end however we decided the guys would write the song and Bääbs would sing it solo." Bääbs or Päivi Kankaro tells. "My dad has always said: "Then when you are in Eurovision... " and once even sent me a newspaper article where Lordi's and TV-resistori's (her band) albums critic was on same page with a note attached "This is the closest you've got to Eurovision so far" she continues. "Eurovision in Finland is an institution. Usually we have ended with a flop but Lordi showed what a success in Eurovision can mean to the whole nation. I have followed Eurovision always. Some years with less interest, some with more but always. As a kid it was a huge thing, we used to gather together and enjoy the show with our own votes and all. Being here is though no childhood dream. I am an artist and every artist dreams of big arenas. I like to perform and I'm in this with 100%. We will do a big show as this is the right arena for it. My career will go on after Eurovision and I'm not afraid of critic or failure. This is one opportunity. So far this all circus has only brought positive things: I have met some wonderful people who are sincerely interested in it and in me. I'm not a dead serious person, I can take things with humour and self irony so harsh critic doesn't hurt me even if it's not very nice either. Finns in general take Eurovision too seriously and are so pessimistic. If we don't succeed every year, so what? Let's try next year again! Eurovision is flirt, drama, glitter and entertainment! The right additude is the main thing, to have fun. If someone else happens to win, so what? Life goes on..."
Bääbs will perform You don't know tomorrow in the first semifinal on January 8, 2010.
