This Saturday also Estonia finally selects the song for Moscow 2009. The process has been quite different from previous years and in all the ten songs are pretty mixed group of songs to different tastes. And I am sure the ranking will look very different from what we would have had if the songs were presented just like a week ago instead of this lenghty presentation period this time. Here are my thoughts about them based on the presentation videos you can watch here: http://etv.err.ee/index.php?0551251
Lowry opens the show. He has the looks and great voice but the song just may not be strong enough even if I like it. Janna Saar follows with her 60's pop tune and rather special dress that takes your attention from rather weak vocals by her. In all the performance feels very cold. And the male backing singer is stealing the show, despite the dress. StereoChemistry offers then some poprock in Estonian and it doesn't sound nice even to a Finn's ear... Urban Symphony next. They have become a favourite since songs were presented weeks ago. This is how to mix pop and classic (take note, Slovenia!). Hypnotic and beautiful. She is pretty and sings well, the presentation is classy. This would do honour to Estonia in Moscow 2009. Chalise would be a perfect follow up to Estonia's last year's entry and I doubt there is no one in Europe who wants that, is there? Unfortunately Köök falls to the same category. Rolf Jr next. He's one of the favourites with his pop song that screams Eurovision. And the staging follows the same trend. For some reason it makes me think of Everybody even if this one's better. Estonia won with that one which was one of the biggest shocks in the Eurovision history. I don't think they would repeat that with this one! Traffic follow with a rock ballad that although being very nice lacks a hook to make it memorable. Ithaka Maria provides another forgettable number before Laura. She was my precontest favourite as I loved her previous two entries and her album is fantastic. And this track sounds like a track from that album. But I'm not sure about the dress... or if this song's perfect for Eurovision. However, Sven Lõhmus wrote also Urban Symphony's song so he has clearly the best two songs in the running. But sorry Laura, my vote goes to Urban Symphony after all.
