Mediterranean melancholy from Croatia

Who reads this blog knows I usually love the Croatian entries and 2009 is no exception! This year they offer a very melancholy Slavic sounding ballad full of Mediterranean - a great mix and very suitable for Moscow I think - by two great vocalists and beautiful guitar.

Igor Cukrov is a 24-year old theology student who wanted to become a priest at some point but his desire to sing was stronger. He was a finalist in Croatian Operacija Trijumf last year. In 2007 he took part in Split music festival where he won the best debutant award. Besides singing first tenor in the Dalmatian vocal ensemble Combi he is also a multi instrumentalist. He plays guitar, piano, trumpet and clarinet.

The composer Tonci Huljic is no stranger to Eurovision or fame and success. He's the most succesful composer in ex-Yugoslavia in the 90's and this is already his 4th Eurovision entry after Nostalgija (1995/6th), Maria Magdalena (1999/4th) and Strings of my heart (2001/10th). Lyricist Vjekoslava Huljic is Tonci's wife and have written already over 400 songs besides four children's books.

Andrea Susnjara (22) is no stranger to Eurovision either. She participated as soloist twice already: in 2004 with fan favourite Noah (2nd) and in 2005 with Ljudi s mora (4th). She has been absent from the Croatian pop scene for some time now due to her philosophy and opera singing studies but makes here now a very welcome comeback.

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

MALTA MUSIC: CLAUDIA FANIELLO - MILES AWAY

Claudia Faniello, one of the finest voices in Malta. Often compared to Ira Losco and known as Fabrizio's little sister but she has proven in the past ten years she's a star of her own right. She may have taken part in the Maltese Eurovision selection with 8 songs between 2006-2012 but not winning (yet...), She came second with Caravaggio and Pure though. Well, almost. Now that Azerbaijan has risen up to the Top-5 in beting odds to win it all with Chingiz's Truth they are not holding it back and all tricks are welcome to attire some attention. BLUE'S DUNCAN JAMES TALKS SEX AND EUROVISION - AND GETS NAKED AGAIN FOR GT

Blue's Duncan James is showing his new polished muscles and inks in the cover and interview in GT. He also talks about Eurovision saying: "It was a good thing for us in Europe but a bad thing for us in the UK. We wanted to mark our tenth anniversary with something special and representing your country in the biggest music show in the world was pretty special but on the back of Eurovision we didn't even have a second single or album. It was like a big whoopie cusion that deflated. " Being GT, he also talks about sex: “I still enjoy having sex with girls. I find women attractive. Over the years it’s been less and less relationships with girls. So I understand that saying, ‘Bi now, gay later.’ But it’s 2012 and there’s nothing wrong in being open with your sexuality." ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further? No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

ESC 2014: UKRAINE REVEALS NEANGELY AND THE REST

Ukraine is set to select its entrant for Eurovision 2014 in about two weeks as the final is set on December 21, 2013. Twenty names made it through the casting selection yesterday and will be presented. The winner will be chosen by a jury and televote. Among the 20 some familiar names like NeAngely and names from local The Voice and X Factor as well as New Wave. As usual they didn't give the song titles yet but some songs have leaked already. Beware of changes though. CZECH REPUBLIC: MARTINA BÁRTA PRESENTS MY TURN

Czech Republic's internally chosen Martina Bárta has released her entry My turn for the Eurovision as well today. Not sure if I managed to keep my attention level very high for very long when listening to it.... Shame.

FINLAND: VIRPI KÄTKÄ NARROWLY MISSED THE SURVIVOR FINAL

Virpi Kätkä of CatCat fame came 4th in the Finnish Survivor against all odds, and was even the longest surviving female competitor. She managed to get this far by being friendly and helpful to everyone and staying out of any major fights and double-talk. Or so we thought.... she confessed afterwards it was just the game she played! She was voted out in unison by the remaining guys in a rather ugly way. after Kim won the last challenge and got safety when the other had planned to vote him out. No one wanted to be in the final against Virpi anyways so she would have been next one out perhaps but Kim's victory messed it all up. Kim is actually Kim Herold, of Humane Euroviisut 2007 (7th) fame. Let's see if he misses the final two as well and is on the next Plane Away.
