The 24th Eurovision song contest took place in Jerusalem on March 31, 1979. For the first time outside European continent and against the will of rabbis. Turkey was supposed to participate but the other Arab countries did such a pressure on them they withdraw in the end so there were only 19 countries. Israel provided a great show: the stage was good and many Eurovision classics were born that night. Dschingis Kahn, Disco Tango, Sokrates anyone? The winner was however Israel and Hallelujah by Gali Atari & Milk and Honey, another classic. Spain was close to winning - and brought kids to the stage! - but the last jury, Spain itself, awarded the victory to Israel. It is the only time such thing has happened in the Eurovision colorful history.
