It's time to kick of the usual reviews. The opinions are all mine and if I don't like some song it's simply just not my cup of tea so to speak. If I like something you dislike or hate, it's fine, too. No stresso, no need to be depresso it's just music and tastes that re diverse and therefor beautiful! I also try to predict their success come May a little bit but as we know once the staging is out everything may change, remember Fuego and Rise like a phoenix for example?
For this series I have grouped the songs in fours as usual as the songs may have similarities or something in common. Some fours came out beautifully, the others.... well not so well. Here comes the seventh part!
ITALY - Lucio Corsi - Volevo essere un duro
I predict another Top-5 for Italy against all fan bubble odds. Even a shock winner. The juries would like this and televoters as well. If he managed to charm Italians as a nobody in Sanremo finishing second only 0,45% behind the winner why wouldn't he do the same in Europe? He's authentic, different, has personality and no gimmicks, just a good song that will certainly hit home with older generations watching with his 70's glam rock ballad. What's there not to love?
PORTUGAL - NAPA - Deslocado
Portugals' national final voting was a mess where the juries and televoters didn't agree on nothing really. Juries 4th place and second place in televotes (all of Madeira probably voted them) was enough to win. I'm not saying the song isn't worth a win, it's nice old fashioned retro pop ballad of longing home and not fitting into city life. They have also made alternative version of their song, that sound even more Portuguese. I have this as a borderline qualifier. But either way I'm fine. This year I don't have a soft spot for Portugal as many times before. Desculpe!
SERBIA - Princ - Mila
Serbia is one of those few countries that made changes to their song's original version . And they asked help from none other than Zeljko Joksimovic who dropped and tuned down the somewhat clumsy 70's rock bit towards the end. Princ has a very good voice and the song is what I have been missing the past few years: old fashioned Balcan ballad. The national final performance was like from those book covers for ladies with steamy stories. let's see what they do for Basel. For me Serbia is Q and 16th to 20th in the final. Should it go higher, I'm ok!
UKRAINE - Ziferblat - Bird of pray
Another 70's inspired rock song. My problem with it is that it reminds a lot of Ultra Bra, a Finnish band that I can't stand! And therefor I always skip this one. Sorry! But I suppose it's safe to say Ukraine will be in the final once more and reach the Top-10 as well, but maybe not the Top-5. Then again, this might be fighting over for the same votes as Italy....
