It's time to kick of the usual reviews. The opinions are all mine and if I don't like some song it's simply just not my cup of tea so to speak. If I like something you dislike or hate, it's fine, too. No stresso, no need to be depresso it's just music and tastes that re diverse and therefor beautiful! I also try to predict their success come May a little bit but as we know once the staging is out everything may change, remember Fuego and Rise like a phoenix for example?
For this series I have grouped the songs in fours as usual as the songs may have similarities or something in common. Some fours came out beautifully, the others.... well not so well. Here comes the eight part!
UNITED KINGDOM - Remember Monday - What the hell just happened?
They can sing alright. The song is a mess. It sounds like a medley of hits from a musical or simply just some band's greatest hits medley. A bit annoying really. I wouldn't surprised if this end up in bottom 6 as usual. That's were I'd put it anyways.
LATVIA - Tautumeitas - Bur man laimi
First things first: It's great this is in Latvian! And there's also an acoustic version. Good voices, interesting song. But that gives nothing to me. In my ranking this is a NQ but who knows?
LITHUANIA - Katarsis - Tavo akys
First things first: it's great this is in Lithuanian! What else? I don't know. Not really my cup of tea. I guess this appeals to certain type of younger generations (my nieces for example - our poll is coming up!) but for me this gives very little and nothing. In my ranking this is a NQ but I doubt it is. There's also a choir version.
SWEDEN - KAJ - Bara bada bastu
Finland's second entry? Not quite. I'm pretty sure they would have not won UMK, or actually they would have not been made the final line up there. But if they had, and won, this wouldn't be number one in odds and even Finns going crazy for this - more than to our own entry. This being Sweden, and a different Sweden, gains extra popularity. Will this win in Basel? I don't yet think so. Rather the 2nd place if all goes well. If this wins I'm happy, of course, because it's a bit of a Finnish victory even if it is not. Nor Sweden's really. It's SVT's win. Then again, if they win maybe SVT is so fed up hosting that offer YLE the job and we're off to Tampere, or Helsinki as the arena should be back in business later this year. That's all anpother story though. But to think that Finland, the eternal loser and failure has become such an Eurovision power nation: we have 2,5 entries competing this year, Austria is styled by Teemu Muurimäki and staging built in Finland and Finnish team is partly behind many other delegations stagings as well. That I lived to see this.....Now I can only wish for top-3 as Finland, Sweden and Estonia and then we really should get the honors to host in 2026 no matter who of these three wins!
The big question remains though will Arja Saijonmaa be the spokesperson for Sweden? And for Finland, too? Live from the border preferably!
