It's time to kick of the usual reviews. The opinions are all mine and if I don't like some song it's simply just not my cup of tea so to speak. If I like something you dislike or hate, it's fine, too. No stresso, no need to be depresso it's just music and tastes that re diverse and therefor beautiful! I also try to predict their success come May a little bit but as we know once the staging is out everything may change, remember Fuego and Rise like a phoenix for example?
For this series I have grouped the songs in fours as usual as the songs may have similarities or something in common. Some fours came out beautifully, the others.... well not so well. Here comes the second part.
NETHERLANDS - Claude - C'est la vie
I was very happy when Claude was announced, and I do like his song a lot. The mix of languages works very well, at least for someone who speaks both English and French so it all blends together without effort. All this said I am quite surprised this is doing so well in odds. I don't think a Dutch victory is in the cards but a top-10 most likely after scoring well with both juries and televotes. This is one of those songs I like a lot whne hearing but tend to forget it exists otherwise.
LUXEMBURG - Laura Thorn - La poupée monte le son
First things first: I love France Gall and also Poupée de cire, poupée de son is one of my favorite Eurovision winners. The who concept is great and she was by far my favorite in the national final and most likely in my Top-10 of season 2025. Fun sweet pop song with catchy melody. Bubble gum pop at its best! She's been busy releasing both gloomy électrique and jazzy acoustic versions, but the original is by far the best one. As much as I wish to do really well I am afraid this is a borderline qualifier.
IRELAND - Emmy - Laika party
This one is right there with Luxemburg: I like a lot but sadly it seems to be a borderline qualifier. I find this sweet and fun, a real pop song with melody and beat, instead of pretentious dance break filled more modern beats and gimmicks. It would be wonderful if both these qualified! Like in Luxemburg this was in Ireland the only song I hoped to win from the start. And to think some people are upset she sings about a Russian dog in the space who was sent to its death... Rip Laika but the whole idea of the song is a happy ending and I love the idea of Laika having the time of her life in space forever! And this works wonderfully even as acoustic version. A prove the song is strong to start with.
NORWAY - Kyle Alessandro - Lighter
Kyle brings the standard girlie pop song with choreography with the only difference he's a boy. No doubt he can sing and perform the hell out of it but I'm a bit tired of these songs and sounds and even if this most likely a sure finalist this could end way lower than fandom predicts. The production itself is rather monotonous in the end. My guess is 15-20 but then again what do I know? There's also an acoustic version that kinda proves the song itself isn't that bad stripped off its beats and sounds.
