It's time to kick of the usual reviews. The opinions are all mine and if I don't like some song it's simply just not my cup of tea so to speak. If I like something you dislike or hate, it's fine, too. No stresso, no need to be depresso it's just music and tastes that re diverse and therefor beautiful! I also try to predict their success come May a little bit but as we know once the staging is out everything may change, remember Fuego and Rise like a phoenix for example?
For this series I have grouped the songs in fours as usual as the songs may have similarities or something in common. Some fours came out beautifully, the others.... well not so well. Here comes the ninth part!
MALTA - Miriana Conte - Serving (Kant)
Miriana caused quite a stir after her win in Malta due to "kant" on behalf of BBC apparently. And then BBC's own entry is titled What the HELL just happened. I'd say hell and cunt in i its variations are same level swear word in Finland, should I be outraged and offended? This said I wasn't a big fan at first even if the national final live performance was quite amusing with its bouncing gym balls at least. Then came the video that underlines all the fun and irony and laughing at herself. I warmed up. And then now I'm just waiting for the crowd in Basel shouting kant! during the song. In the final I suppose this will do the Top-15 but maybe not quite the Top-10. She's done also an alternative museum of archaeology version. Oh the irony!
FINLAND - Erika Vikman - ICH KOMME
Ebu has never published the music video i their channel and even Youtube apparently has tried to censor it. Oh the times we're living. But Erika's power is on stage live. She stormed the UMK2025 even if Goldielocks was a surprise challenger. Eurovision is her dream and Käärijä and Tommy Cash her friends. In Finland you either love or hate her, no one is indifferent. It's written by Chisu and her hubby Chisu being a true legend and the most talented female singer-songwriter of the 2000's or ever in Finland. All was set for perfection. Then came KAJ..... But maybe her silence in Finland in these pre-contest months has done only good. She will close the contest's semi-final stage. I am of course hoping for a best possible finish, a Top-5 is a possibility but somehow at this poínt I tend to lean on 6th to 10th slot. But let's wait and see. She has just released a club remix, too.
AUSTRIA - JJ - Wasted love
This is right my cup of tea but despite that I have had a hard time adapting to this. As I like pop oera like Il Volo, Il Divo and Alessandro Safina to some point I can't quite get a grip of this. Then came the mash up with Conchita Wurst and it kinda clicked. But not yet totally. The ending of the song is a bit wierd still and recalls ICH KOMME's solution and coming after that feels like a monkey me. Should this win it'd be the third Eurovision winner in a row that doesn't get into my playlists at all.... But JJ seems like a nice chap and is having the time of his life in pre-parties. But here we are judging the songs, not the persons.
AUSTRALIA - Go-Jo - Milkshake man
This is chaotic man and he's got a character or personality you certainly remember. In a way this will be a total disaster or it will do reasonable well with top-15 finish. I have a sneaky feeling the juries this year after Cha cha cha and Rim tim dagi tim might favor fun and catchy people pleaser tunes a bit more than usually and if so it plays to Sweden's, Australia's and Estonia's favor. He has released also an alternative Jungle caramel version. I have mixed feelings, I kinda like the taste of this. Quite a lot. But then do I want another dose? Maybe not. Or....
