It's time to kick of the usual reviews. The opinions are all mine and if I don't like some song it's simply just not my cup of tea so to speak. If I like something you dislike or hate, it's fine, too. No stresso, no need to be depresso it's just music and tastes that re diverse and therefor beautiful! I also try to predict their success come May a little bit but as we know once the staging is out everything may change, remember Fuego and Rise like a phoenix for example?
For this series I have grouped the songs in fours as usual as the songs may have similarities or something in common. Some fours came out beautifully, the others.... well not so well. Here comes the third part!
ARMENIA - Parg - Survivor
To me this is a weird one: I have seen Parg's other videos and heard songs and he can sing. But his vocals are very forced giving impression he can't. Plus the whole chorus is sing back. I'm not sure the juries will appreciate that so much. Or the insane lyrics a la stay-aliver. This said this is kinda catchy and engaging when you see and hear it but only then. I'. afraid this is a NQ.
CROATIA - Marko Bošnjak - Poison Cake
Another song with laughter in it and it's quite noisy in parts , too. I liked his entry two years ago a lot and hoped it would win in the national final but it didn't. I'm not so keen on this one and sadly usually end up skipping this on the Eurovision playlist. It's too noisy, strange and chaotic and not at all funny after two times with the yummy yummy whatever nonsense. Another NQ in my books.
SPAIN - Melody - Esa Diva
First things first: I think I preferred the original Benidorm Fest version. But she's done also a symphonic version. Ok, this song is quite a cliché for a Spanish song, and ok it's also a bit old fashioned in every way and she might be just a little bit over dramatic but.... it works, this is the best Spanish entry for years! It isn't pretending to be anything else it is, just pure Spanish pop with a lot of melody. I am hoping this would have a left side finish in the final but I have some doubts. We'll see.
POLAND - Justyna Steczkowska - GAJA
To end this very noisy quartet is Justyna who returns after 30 years and it's all very different from her first time. Sadly EBU didn't do her the trick of making her open again like she did in 1995 - maybe in the final then? This performance, I have hard time to call this a song as it more of a performance of very looooooong notes, many of them, some creaming and noisy beats and a lot dancing and gimmics. Somewhat fun to watch but do I listen to this only? No. And those looooooong notes became q bit annoying in the end. I wonder if the juries will be impressed or the televoters. This could even be a shock NQ. A shock for the fandom that is.
