Two blond ladies with blue eyes, catchy little rather acoustic song, perfect for radios. While Denmark has a hint of melancholy in it, Latvia is bursting with good mood and happiness singing about the song she is singing about. How weird is that? Weird but wonderful but so is Denmark's entry. I have fondly disliked all these Danish entries of recent year's that have done very well in Eurovision - does this now mean Denmark will bomb as I like it? And how about Latvia? Many say they like it "somehow" but it will not be voted for. Are we sure? As said, Denmark has done the top-5 two years in a row, while Latvia has missed the final three years in a row. Will the tables turn this year? And both have a very messy staging in national finals to sort out before Baku. Will they succeed?
Latvia - Anmary - Beautiful song *****
The song is insanely catchy, whether you like it not, the melody sticks into your brain. And the corny lyrics. But it also comes across that they are not so serious but just happy to sing this song about this song they are singing, and if they can deliver that feeling on stage as well we might have the biggest surprise of Eurovision 2012 in our hands (remember I wanna?) I love Anmary's voice and if she delivers, if the staging fits you can forget all the rest and just sing along while texting your vote... and hum the song still when the next song is on stage, especially when it's Albania, a song that you can't really get a hold on with the first hearing, even if it's brilliant, too.
Denmark - Soluna Samay - Should've known better *****
This song includes my favorite line of the season 2012 "I miss you like Sahara miss the rain". Fantastic stuff. Soluna is cute, has a great voice, the song is catchy. It has a special atmosphere and I love to listen to it. It is a bit repetitive but somehow it still keeps going and growing a bit and three minutes don't feel longer. They need to fix the staging that made no sense at all and we might have another Danish success. But like in Latvia's case it all depends on the performance, it could go terribly wrong so easily. It won't make the song any worse but it might keep the people from voting it.... remember this? Cruel stuff.
