Elina Orkoneva comes from Hämeenlinna and her song He's not my man mixes nicely old and new, souldful pop and 50's and 60's American music. Throw in a little bit of jazz and Elina's flawless vocals and that's her entry for UMK 2013. She's 23 and studies in Sibelius Academy and have also studied in The Royal Academy of music in Århus, Denmark. She writes her songs about her own life and tells that they just come, she doesn't know how and where from. She thinks in singing is more important the feeling than the technical part. She chose UMK over other reality formats for the simple reason that here she can do both: sing and write her own song. She also keeps busy by singing in four different bands at the moment: Elina Orkoneva Ensemble, the3ees, Local Voices and Sense.
What did the jurors say?
Toni Wirtanen: It's hard to resist this groove. But she's on her own comfort zone clearly. If she can set herself on fire on stage this could be whatever!
Tomi Saarinen: The players are good but it's a bit like they are showing of what they have learned. If they can bring something of themselves into this a bit more.....
Aija Puurtinen: This has something old but also something new, freshness. A bit of Imelda May and a lot of something Finnish.
Redrama: Really simple and shameless beat...
Toni: I think she was a bit too "nice", she should be a bit more slutty...
Aija: I am sure she can do that...
Toni: Well, I'm waiting for that......
Here is her website, Facebook and a great video where she's featured, Nobody's laughing.
