Marco Mengoni wins in the end the 63rd Festival di Sanremo with L'Essenziale gaining 44% of the televotes and 36% of the juryvotes in the superfinal beating Modà and Elio e le storie tese. Before these results Fabio Fazio also announced that he had been selected for Eurovision, with a very short and dry announcement met with a timid applause. This year not even the ESC promo made of RAI was shown... The song for Eurovision will be announced in coming weeks.
The jury really wanted Elio e le storie tese to win but luckily Italian televoters had more sense and had them only 6th. The press also awarded Elio & co with the Premio della critica Mia Martini to them, as well as the orchestra members the award for the best arrangement. You can watch all the performances here.
