BLOGILKAR EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: DIANDRA

Diandra, the biggest pre-contest favourite to win UMK has also taken a moment to answer some questions to your truly. She was once the Little Red Riding Hood but who was the Big Bad wolf? What happened in her house when Lordi won Eurovision? Does she speak Spanish? Read it all here and don't forget to vote her in the poll on your right hand side ->

You won Idols, released a hit album and now UMK. If you win UMK and go to Eurovision, does it mean more to you than winning Idols?
I've always wanted to be a singer and a performer, so winning the Idol was magical. I've studied music since the age of 3, but Idols was the thing that started my career. It’s very exciting to be competing in UMK. Performing on the Eurovision stage would be an absolute dream come true.
You were spotted by David Lee Brewer, Beyonce's vocal couch. Tell us a bit about the collaboration.
David is an amazing vocal coach. He’s taught me a lot about singing and performing and he is really nice and supportive. It’s an honor to get to work with him.
Are you already planning your second album?
Yes, we are planning the second album. We’re looking for songs and I’ve been to the studio writing songs. I love writing music and planning the second album is really exciting.
If you could work with any musician (living or not), who would it be?
It would be a dream to work with Ne-Yo and the Norwegian production team Stargate and Kanye West.
How do you feel about covers and is there a song or two that you'd like to cover?
Yes. I love to cover songs. Idols was an amazing experience also because I got to perform my favorite songs every Sunday on TV. I love music and I have SO many favorite songs! One of the songs that I’d love to cover is an old song called “Always” by Atlantic Starr.
Ideal duet partner? Mikael Saari admitted he wants to duet with you, what do you think about that?
My dream artists would be Lady Gaga, Beyonce and Ne-Yo. They're incredible! Mikael is so great, it would be nice to work with him. When we were younger we actually worked together at a summer teather. He was the Big Bad Wolf and I was Little Red Riding Hood!
Who are your idols, musical influences?
My Idols are Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Whitney Houston, Rihanna and a Finnish singer/songwriter Osmo Ikonen. And there are plenty of other artists that I admire and love. I’m influenced by all kind of music. I have a strong backround in classical music, so I get inspired by that a lot. I love pop, soul, r’n’b, disco, dance, hiphop, old songs… Music is the best thing in the world.

Did you watch UMK last year and if so, what did you think?
Yes sometimes. I thought it was a fresh and positive new music competition in Finland.
I think the quality of songs is much better this year, do you agree?
I like this year’s songs, and last year Mica Ikonen was in the competition with his song that I really liked
Are you happy how everything is progressing in UMK this year?
Yes. I’m really excited for the Circus Live show! I’ve had rehearsals with my super talented dancers Jeffrey & Akim and the great choreographer Virpi Kurki. We’ve had meetings with my amazing “style-group”. They’re fantastic and it’s an honor to get to work with these fashion professionals., Mert Otsamo designed my outfit, Tom Wennerstrand does my hair & make-up and Tommy Kilponen is styling.
You are an Eurovision fan, we know that. When did you start watching it?
My first memory of the Eurovision was when I was around the age of 5. We had kids in our home for a sleepover. I was supposed to play with them, but I was hypnotized by the big music show that was on the television.
Any Eurovision all time favourites?
I have so many favorites. I love Euphoria, Sata Salamaa, Lejla, Fairytale, Un Bloody Mary, Shady Lady, Stronger Every Minute, Satellite, Yassou Maria, Qele Qele, Jan Jan, Believe, My Number One, Molitva… and so many others
Any Eurovision song that you would have wanted to perform in the past?
I think Shady Lady. It’s a very catchy song, or My Number One. And I really love the beautiful ballad Stronger Every Minute and Lejla.
We just saw this Thursday your first performance to the judges. How did you feel it went? Were you nervous? Was it a kind of flashback to Idols?
It was exciting. It was kind of a flashback to the Idols but the difference was that we weren’t told who the judges were and we got to sing the whole song with a band.
What do you think about their advice and opinions?
The judges had good opinions and advice.
Are you going to act on them? What can we except in the live gig at Circus?
Yes, the song has some changes compared to the demo version. I have cool clothes and make-up/hair and amazing, young male dancers with me on stage at Circus Liveshow.
Where were you when Lordi won Eurovision? Did you think one day you would be very close to that stage as well (well, not Athens but Malmö...)
I was 11 and at my Grandpa and Grandma’s house. The show ended so late that my Grandma was already sleeping, so we tried to be very quiet with my grandpa, but we couldn’t! We were so excited and celebrating and jumping on the sofa! We were super proud and happy that our country had won the Eurovision! It would be a big honor and so amazing to perform on the Eurovision stage representing my beautiful country.
How will you get your fans to vote for you in UMK? Are you busy in social medias and what plans do you have on that?
I have my Official Facebook page where I tell my fans what’s going on with my life, the UMK, album making and everything.
A question from your Spanish fans: Do you speak Spanish?
I spoke Spanish very well when I was little. Unfortunately I’ve forgotten quite a bit of the language. When I was 14 we visited Barcelona with my orchestra and while we were there Spanish started coming back. People always tell me that if I study Spanish for a while it will come back to me. Maybe someday I have the time to study it back, it'd be great.
We surely think so! Go Spanish! Thanks for the interview, Diandra. Would you like to say hi to the readers of Blogilkar?
I would like to wish an exciting, lovely and positive, sunny and music filled Eurovision spring to all the readers of Blogilkar!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

Kuunkuiskaajat in Russia!

Kuunkuiskaajat are performing tomorrow in Russia in Sosnogorsk Rock Festival 2010. Apparently the festival has something to do with Finno-Ugric culture and Komi.... I have to investigate that a bit more. Anyways, way to go girls! Meanwhile here they are a couple of weeks ago in Helsinki's Korjaamo .

EUROVISION 2024: BLOGILKAR'S HOME JURY RESULTS REVEAL - PLACES 32.- 37.

Another year, another Home Jury. And mind you, never ever before the results have been so surprising and I must honestly admit so not in line with my own likes and dislikes but what can I do, they have spoken. We voted with scores from 1 to 10 and this year also the scores are all time low and without a runaway winner. Ties were broken by highest individual scores. This year our unprofessional, mildly interested, regular Eurovision viewers included people in their teens, 20's, 30's, 40's and 50's. Both sexes, various locations in Finland added with our exotic Peruvian member to spice things up a little. I will count down the whole ranking in coming days from bottom to the top so please do follow up and comment if you like. Let's go! 32. SPAIN  3,63 33. ARMENIA  3,25 34. ICELAND  3,25 35. GEORGIA  3,25 36. GREECE  3,00 37. MOLDOVA  3,00

EUROVISION 2024: DAY 6 - FIRST REHEARSALS OF THE BIG 5 + SWEDEN

The Big 5 are in town and on stage for the first time today for their first 30 minute technical rehearsal. And there are boxes. United Kingdom has a dirty old boxing training hall's shower room where everything seems to go very dizzy indeed a la George Michael's toilet scenes. Germany has a house on fire instead and the box theme continues with Sweden.... France goes all intimate instead and does already the familiar step back from microphone a Capella thing that will go wild in the arena. Can't wait! CAROLA'S BOOBS STEAL THE SHOW, SVT APOLOGIES

Update! Another thing got Swedes talking last night: Carola's boobs when she was giving away an award. This is not the first time her boombs cause headlines; her misfortunate adventures in the 80's in Japan wer explained with her boobs being too big for Japanese market. Ok.... Or was it the song ? Anyways, Carola apologies and says she thinks the dress is stylish and elegant (even her friends said so) and she's a mature woman in her 40s, not a 16-year-old girl and looks like one. The Swedish Oscars, Guldbagge awards were given out last night. Carola was there as a guest star to sing Barbra Streisand's The way we were when honoring the movie stars who passed away during 2012. However, the cameras were too much on Carola, not on the stars showed in photos in the background and that upset many viewers as that part of the show was to celebrate them, not Carola. Oh well...  The producer of the show tells in Aftonbladet the part of the show was made the sam
