Giusto who I hear you ask? Not only the Italian conductor in 1984. This man is a genius of Italian popular music, the one who has helped Franco Battiato shape his million selling sound. After having a classical training he got a job as violonist in RAI's orchestra for over 30 years but soon was arranging and producing songs in the 1970's and 1980's for Battiato, Alice, Milva and Giuni Russo just to name a few ,helping their careers and collaborating in their biggest hits. His violin based arrangements have their own recognizable sound and it is fabulous, me thinks. Just listen to Gente al lavoro, Legione straniera and Capriccio. Or I treni di Tozeur, Un'estate al mare, La passione secondo Milva and the other songs here. In 1990's and 2000's he has been arranging and composing mostly experiemental music for theatre. Like his life long partner in music Battiato also Pio has also emerged as a painter. He has 11 albums released under his name. Here he is in his studio playing around.
On his 85th birthday in Caerano di San Marco (TV) in Villa Benzi Zecchini his friends and collaborators including Alice and Battiato will gather to perform for him when an exhibition of his paintings, drawings, videos and sounds will be opened. Over the month of January a biography of his life will be published with a CD, and several concerts of his music will be given.
Tantissimi auguri e grazie Giusto per la musica splendida che ha fatto parte della mia vita gli ultimi 30 anni!
