Now that The Netherlands won the Eurovision song contest again after 44 years wait all eyes turn to Spain. Their last win was back in 1969, 50 years ago. Malta is still waiting for their first win after 48 years. France has been waiting since 1977, that's 42 years. Cyprus (38 years) and Iceland (33 years) are still waiting along with Malta for the first win.
But The Netherlands proved it is possible. Even more so the Eurovision underdogs Finland and Portugal that both finally won, after 45 and 53 years!
Ireland is still leading the winner's table with seven wins (four of them in the 1990's) followed by Sweden with six, two of them in this decade. The Netherlands joined France, United Kingdom and Luxembourg in the five wins club while Israel has four.
A total of 25 countries are still waiting for the first win and 15 of them has never made the Top-3, with Andorra never even making the final.
In te last decade 39 countries have made it to Top-10, and 18 to the podium with Sweden having the most Top-10 finish (8) followed by Italy (7), the Russia, Norway and Ukraine (6), Ukraine and Denmark (5).
Spain has made it to Top-10 twice (10th bosth times), Cyprus once (2nd), France once (6th). Malta also once (8th). So there's hope to get it right eventually.....
