Back to Ireland on April 4, 1981. Royal Dublin Society's Simmonscourt Pavilion was the venue. Italy snobbed the contest and would have an on and off relationship with it until 1997, its last appearance. Morocco also didn't return after its unlucky debut in 1980. Israel and Yogoslavia returned and Cyprus debuted: a happy group of 20 countries! Austria started the show and Turkey followed.... just like the year before! Ralph Siegel was there, so was Jean Claude Pascal, Tommy Seebach, Björn Skifs and Peter, Sue & Marc. The night is well remembered for Bucks Fizz's winning strip tease and Yogoslavia's Helga's voting announcement: I don't have them! . Helga would return to the scene in Zagreb 1989 as the hostess (and yes, she did have her lines in order then!)Bucks Fizz would go on having a very succesful career with 3 UK #1 and nearly 4 million albums sold even if their win was very small - they only got twice 12 points - and beat Germany only with 4 points. Within 12 points there were also France and Switzerland only 15 points away.
