Last year UMK provided a mega hit that wasn't the winner but the runner up Cicciolina by Erika Vikman and she's back performing the opening number with the host Antti Tuisku, Finland's number one pop star. As for hits the 2021 edition has already given us three hits as Teflon Brothers feat. Pandora (#2), Blind Channel (#5) and Ilta (#5) are all in Top-13 in the for the third consecutive week when writing this (in brackets their peak so far), and all seven songs have made the Radio Play charts Top-100, Teflon Brothers feat. Tonight the televoters (75%) and the international jury (25%) will decide on the winner. The juries this year come from UK, Switzerland, Poland, Iceland, Spain, The Netherlands and for the first time ever anywhere, the United States. (And one wonders why?!)
The field is quite open as Finns tend to vote in a funny way, and a lot depends if someone like Blind Channel manages to activate their fans to vote on Saturday evening or not. Ilta might be my favorite winner but I also like the idea of Teflon Brothers feat Pandora. Aksel could do it again and Oskr gets a lot of praise from critics and we can't rule out Danny. After all he has three generations of fans supporting him rather than the song. I would say only poor Laura is hopeless at this point. Not because she's not worthy but she's Estonian.
