ITALY: OVER 50 NAMES RUMORED FOR SANREMO - WILL IL VOLO, GABBANI, TOZZI & RAF, GUALAZZI, OXA, RANIERI RETURN?
Several Eurovision stars seem to be aiming for a Sanremo comeback. As the Sanremo rumors are running wilder and wilder when the day of announcement is getting closer out of the blue come whispers that Il Volo have a song ready and they are willing to spread some grande amore in Sanremo again. Could the 2015 Sanremo winners and Eurovision song contest televoting winners really be willing to do it all again? We'll see! But if Il Volo scored 3rd place in Eurovision Raphael Gualazzi did even better placing 2nd in 2011 when Italy made its grand return to the contest. He has been twice to Sanremo since winning the Newcomers in 2011 placing 5th and 2nd, so can't be ruled out if he does participate.
The 1988 Sanremo winner and 1971 and 1973 Eurovision entrant Massimo Ranieri is apparently on Claudio Baglioni's wishlist but seems not so eager to take part again. If he does it's his 7th time since 1968. Another name, causing some controversy, is Anna Oxa. 1989 and 1991 winner, and Eurovision 1989 dueetist with Fausto Leali. It would her 15th festival, last time being in 2011. The past decade she has been acting a bit weird and no one seems to know if she's gone mad or simply over artistic....
Last but not least, Eurovision bronze medalists 1987 Umberto Tozzi and Raf have reunited for a tour and an album, and the rumor is they have a song ready for Sanremo 2019 as well. On the other hand they could also suit as super guest stars and not in the competition.
Update 10.12.18: And the latest last minute addititon to the list is none other than Francesco Gabbani, the only one ever to win Sanremo Newcomers and Sanremo itself within two years. And of course being the supermegafanfavorite in Eurovision 2017 plus having the most watched Eurovision Youtube ever. Occidentali's Karma has already nearly 207,5 million views! He's recording a new album so it would make sense but is he ready for Sanremo comeback so soon?
Besides the names circulated early in the season (here) Other names given more or less certain are Irene Grandi, Dolcenera, Chiara, Deborah Iurato, Paola Turci, Nek, Patty Pravo, Loredana Berté, Noemi, Ivana Spagna, Elodie and Anna Tatangelo (alone or in a duet with some Napoletan, see below). Considering last year Baglioni chose only four women this year he should invite more or them, or if he sticks to his formula we can sadly cancel 2/3 of these ladies....
Last minute additions to the list are Thomas, Shade & Federica Carta, The Kolors, Enrico Nigiotti, Lorenzo Fragola, Achille Lauro (maybe with Anna Tatangelo), Francesco Renga, Luca Carboni (maybe making his debut finally after a flop album), Daniele Silvestri, Nino D'Angelo (another possible one duetting with Anna Tatangelo), Marco Masini, Nesli, Rocco Hunt, Dodi Battaglia and Simone Cristicchi.
Should Baglioni go for the younger and more unknown cast in favour for music instead of names we might have surprises like Motta, Diodato, L'Aura, Bugo, Le Deva, Ex-Otago as well as names trying for a proper comeback like I Moda, Valerio Scanu, Tricarico, Alexia or more surprise names like Liberato, Simona Molinari, Carmen Ferreri or veteran Mariella Nava. Roughly two weeks and we will know :-). That's over 50 names while only 22 will make it (+2 from Newcomers). My wild guess is 5-6 names aren't in this list....
