Spain: The Karaoke is over but the hope remains

Daniel Motiño Camúñez reports
Last Singstar (or wannabee star) on TVE last night; the 10 artists that survived the previous two shows fought for a place in the big-3 final, to perform (completely or snippets) three songs each. Although the loss of audience in the second gala (-400.000 viewers and 3,5 points on the share) TVE kept the schedule on Friday night at 22.15, which is peak time in Spain. Besides the previous two shows the audience could start voting from the beginning of the show and a small video with the artists and their previous performances was shown shortly after the presentations. This clearly makes no sense at all since it helps the artists with big following like Lucía Perez ,well known in Galicia, or Auryn, with plenty of fans in internet and in the public tonight.

The jury was in charge of picking two artists while the televote will only take one. I am not sure what is worst at all taking of consideration that only two from the five jury member have a clue about music: Reyes del Amor stated to be a Eurovision expert, but she is nothing more than a Eurovisionpedia, giving facts about Eurovision but nothing to add about the performers or their real chances. Boris Izaguirre who only talks about fashion, gaz-stuff and about Boris on a histerical way, and Albert Hammond who says nothing at all. And by nothing I mean nothing. David Ascanio and Merche are songwriters and performers and they seem to be more focus but not critical enough. Anne Igartiburu announced that next week Merche will not be there....God help us all!

Da Igual kicked out the show performing a rock version of Puppet on the String completely in Spanish called Marionetas en la Cuerda. The song starts more like Wild Dances - am I missings something? Suddenly the lead singer is lifted up and jumps with a reverse pirouette, quite surprising but that was it. They are still just a copy of El Canto del Loco and if they do not manage to get the 1.500 votes from their last audience concert I am afraid (or happy?), they will not be in the final. Reyes del Amor highlighted how impressive the pirouette was -  as impressive was also Sandy Shaw singing with bare feet... So what?.

Esmeralda Grao had the unlucky number two in the running order. She goes again for a Juan Carlos Calderon's song, this time La Fiesta Terminó, another great song misshandled by the juries back in 1985. Expectations are set high since her Nacida para Amar performance last week. Tonight she wears a long red dress with straps. Is she wearing a wonderbra? Something is missing in Esmeralda tonight, she is not there, she is trying to make the song hers but is not working while one of the straps starts pulling down, will we have boobs on stage tonight? She managed to save the strap but not the performance, I guess the party is over for Esmeralda.

Daniel Digues was again in charge of the backstage. This time he was twittering and trying to be clever in his humor and dialogue but without any success at all, he does not have the spark.

Sebas was next in line and for the first time he performed a male's song What's another year. He was definetely the big surprise of the second week, making it with the final. Sebas gives it always all in scene, he is a true Eurofan and representing Spain will be more than a dream for him. Together with a sexy guitarrist, which will be the star of the night, Sebas gave an Ottis Reading touch Johhny Logan's first hit. Boy he is doing it....this was fantastic and our Chiaro should be one of the three finalists tonight. (I totally agree!. Ed.note)

Lucía Perez is one of the public's favorites due to her success in Northern Spain. She is an experienced performer and she represented Spain twice, in 2005 and in 2009, in Viña del Mar Festival and she recently won the Gay Torremolinos Music Festival, so as a bonus she is fit on Gay Music Festivals. Tonight she performs Boom Bang-a-Bang, in English (are you sure? Ed. note) and Spanish. Is she wearing a night-gown? The girl is cute and her voice is typical from the Spanish northen singers, like Amaia Saizar (Bravo), Leire Martínez or Amaia Montero (La Oreja de Van Gogh). She controls the performance and if nothing strange happens she will be in the final due to her fan vote. Reyes del Amor, keeps giving facts, telling that Lulu was on honeymoon with her first husband Maurice Gibb. Lucia said - really? but she meant "I could not care less".

Auryn is the a boy band formed by old Eurojunior Singers. They are the big favorites due to fan vote. Will they make it over Lucía? Tonight they perform the outstanding Eres tú, but they are far not that great, although the performance is effective and the camera work helps a lot. Blas Cantó is definetely the best voice of the group. Tonight they show that they can sing, only one of them seems to have issues as is getting eaten by their colleagues in his solo. The outfits makes me throw up, dressed like English school boys. Are they aware of Blue?

Melissa was picked by televtoing last week totally out of the blue, although she was born in Spain her parents background are Swiss and Belgian. Tonight she hasn't picked the best song she could, Diva. On top of it she has the flu which can impact her performance. She looks gorgeous with a golden clinging dress, but hello she can afford this. Two dancers (but not the guitarist) accompany her on scene. She even gave a Nusa Derenda moment being pulled by them. Where is the flu? She was totally ok, I hope she makes it.

Time for Gio. the artist coming from Vallecas in Madrid, and supporter of Rayo Vallecano. Well I support Español on a world full of Barça so we both are outsiders. What the f**k is she I mean; he wearing? I have no words to describe this outfit: a sport jacket, customized sneekers with Little Mermaid and Nemo characters, a pendent with a $ sign. Dime is the song he selected tonight, and he is taking it to his territory, a Reggae-opo version including a rapper. The results is being effective and Gio has his particular tone of voice, it is not about him but about the performance. The jury praised him - will he be saved by them?

Monica Guech, the catalonian girl from Liverpool next. Llast week she made us believe she is good and tonight she will try to convince us with  Love Shine a light and boy she did! Playing the piano again, and together with a gospel group, Monica was the best performance overall so far. She is cute, she plays the piano and she knows how to sing. This is the real chance for Spain to have an experiences artist able to manage votes from an international audience. There is my third candidate. Merche praised her and said that she would have like to heard her singing in Spanish, as the Eurovision song will be in Spanish...is that a leek? (Yes it is. Ed.note)

Don Johnson's did not risk at all, they just performed Hard Rock Hallelujah wearing tuxedos and sun glasses- They are moving all over the stage on a Men in Black style, the full thing is a bit boring on a boring night. (Agreed. I have seen and heard dozens HRH covers over the years and this was dull. Ed.note)

David Sancho was the closing act. The crooner picked Volare, and I decided to swith to the Irish Final, because I cannot stand this act which seems innovative for the jury but for me is nothing like an Iberian Michael Bubble wannabee trying to repeat Roger Cicero's act.

The interval act was about the null points of Spain, Que bueno que bueno, Llámame and the unavoidable Quién Maneja mi barca. Then the great Pastora Soler performed La Mala Costumbre, that was the best act of the night. Why not asking her to be the joker next Saturday? David Ascanio, one of the jury members, performed as well as Albert Hammond and Merche did last week. Will we see Boris and Reyes next week performing? Finally Sergio Dalma closed the acts with Jardín Prohibido from his supersold album Via Dalma. After the performance Anne gave him a Platinum Disc for the more than 200.000 copies sold, a good figure taking in consideration that people do not buy music anymore and Spain is in a big economical crisis. Anne took the chance to defend the polemical Sinde Law recently implemented in Spain against downloading music.

The moment of truth just arrived, my heart says Melissa, Sebas and Monica Guech, but I guess it will be Lucía Perez, Auryn and...Gio?....

First name the one picked by the televoting is Lucía Perez! Auryn has a poker face... The jury needs to save 2 out of 9, first name is...Melissa! She is totally suprised and cannot believe it! Wow God exists tonight, the jury was suddenly illuminated... but I guess this is the end for Monica Guech. Just one more name and already two females for the final... will they go for Sebas or Gio? It is...Auryn! No way, as I said or the jury has no clue although having a so-called Eurovision expert or they do not want to know. Looking at the bright side, Melissa is the real hope for Spain. She is young, she is cute and she can sing. Will she make it? If you rather see the full show again, click here, but do not take this as a recommendation.

Next week nine songs will be performed, out of 20 selected. TVE announced that the songs will be randomly showed in rtve.es so stay tuned for my next report on Blogilkar's Life after Helsinki 2007!

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

CAROLA'S BOOBS STEAL THE SHOW, SVT APOLOGIES

Update! Another thing got Swedes talking last night: Carola's boobs when she was giving away an award. This is not the first time her boombs cause headlines; her misfortunate adventures in the 80's in Japan wer explained with her boobs being too big for Japanese market. Ok.... Or was it the song ? Anyways, Carola apologies and says she thinks the dress is stylish and elegant (even her friends said so) and she's a mature woman in her 40s, not a 16-year-old girl and looks like one. The Swedish Oscars, Guldbagge awards were given out last night. Carola was there as a guest star to sing Barbra Streisand's The way we were when honoring the movie stars who passed away during 2012. However, the cameras were too much on Carola, not on the stars showed in photos in the background and that upset many viewers as that part of the show was to celebrate them, not Carola. Oh well...  The producer of the show tells in Aftonbladet the part of the show was made the sam...

Rumors, rumors, rumors....

While the national selections for Junior Eurovision are going on around Europe and Ani Lorak's been confirmed as host all sort of rumors about the real thing are beginning to be the order of the day. Austria returns - or then not. Andorra stays home - or then not. San Marino returns - well, most likely but not surely. Luxembourg should make a come back - or then maybe not. Liechtenstein is still in the running - or has it ever been for real? Has the local TV ever confirmed anything? Is it just wishful thinking by the fans? Poland on the other hand has confirmed they will be in Oslo. And Italy will be still out. And apparently there will be no ban or such for Azerbaijan nor Spain for the irregularities in and after the 2009 edition. EBU had to change the text in the rules to make it sure nothing like that what happened in Azerbaijan could happen again. Or if it will they have means and rules to back up a ban or sanction.... Katerina Avgoustakis has been rumored to be in Oslo...

CZECH REPUBLIC: MARTINA BÁRTA PRESENTS MY TURN

Well, almost. The boys celebrated their 650.000th follower on Twitter by being photographed fresh from shower as promised. It's not the first time they drop their clothes as you see here . Meanwhile their second album is nearly here and the title track Young love is hitting the charts....

Boobs for summer: Samantha vs Sabrina!

The old rivals have put their bras (or the lack of them) in peace and entered the studios together to record Blondie's boombastic Call me . Life could be worse.....

UK: Naked Blue

The boys of Blue have posed nude again. This time for the Attitude magazine's annual Naked issue and they are also in the cover. Watch the video of the shooting here . Band member Duncan, who is bi-sexual, recently told The Daily Star : “We are getting our kit off for Attitude magazine like the McFly boys did. I’m up for showing everything off. I’m happy enough about the size of my manhood. ” Extra media attention won't hurt their changes in Germany to win it for the UK for the first time since 1997... They will and they can!
