France has found it's track on Eurovision success again and was the runner up (and sour loser) last year A jury has chosen the 12 finalist who will be first voted by televoters alone and five songs will make the second round. One more act will be chosen as a wild card by the jury. The six super-finalists will be then re-voted. Listening to these songs after Germany and Denmark restores my faith in Eurovision. Merci! I have quite a few favorites but I have no idea who should go to Eurovision but I do have many songs for my playlist for sure! And this seasons first five stars!
Alvan & Ahez - Fulenn ***
This seems to be already a fan favorite, maybe the same ones who wanted Tanxueiras for Spain? I'm old enough to have lived through the ethno-Eurovision decade so I don't warm up to these so much anymore. Still better than anything in Germany or Denmark ;-p
Cyprien Zeni - Ma famille ***
This is exactly what I hear everytime I try to check on what's going on French charts, so very revelant I suppose. And I kinda enjoy this. Not a fan of the shouty chorus but the rest is perfectly fine.
Elia - Téléphone ****
Again very French. I'm liking this maybe a bit too much for what it deserves but what can I do? I have a soft spot for French and Italian music. I get it. I enjoy it. This wouldn't go anywhere at Eurovision but I'm happy this made this dozen.
Elliott - La tempête ****
Very nice, beautiful, classy. Take note Germany.
Hélène in Paris - Paris mon amour **
Ok, no one's perfect. I get she's a character and there's a market for her, too. A few years ago I would have happily welcomed this but now that France has got its act together again: No. Still better than anything in Germany and most of Denmark, Sorry I will keep repeating that as those two....
Joan - Madame **
This is a bit like Cyan Kicks in Finland after Blind Channel. Joan after Barbara? Not a smart move, sorry. Don't do it. Feels a bit circus act really. Still better th..... Ok, ok!
Joanna - Navigateure ***
Another whispering little French voice :-) How come France has these while Italy has all husky raspy voiced females? All pleasant and nice but not strong enough among these others.
Julia - Chut ****
I like maybe her more than the song but it's quite fantastic all the same. Yet again maybe not strong enough for Eurovision but this goes straight to my playlist.
Marius - Les chansons d'amour ***
Makes me think of Gjon's Tears at firts but this impressions fades away soon. Quality ballad. Solid. But not outstanding.
Pauline Chagne - Nuit Pauline *****
You can't be more French than this. This is all my 80's favorites put together in a new fresh package. Here comes the first ***** of the season! This has Elsa, Vanessa, Jeanne, Mylene, Lara, Lio, Julie, Desireless... all the lovely girls in it. Love love love!
Saam - Il est où? ****
Another great track. This reborn French selection gives so much goodies, shame only one can go to Eurovision and choosing the one that would do best there is very difficult. This type a song also recalls Barbara last year and not sure about the circus theme but this one's straight to my playlist, too!
Soa - Seule ****
Another pre-contets fan favorite. Again very French, something that blends into any French music channels perfectly. Catchy and modern. I'd rather see this one is Turin than Fulenn, but then everything comes down to the live and staging. Like most of these entries, so much potential.
