Italy took its well deserved third victory - finally! - at the Eurovision song contest 2021. Over the years several other Italian entries would have been worthy winners. In this series I will go through all of them from the worst ranking to the winners.
Betty Curtis (1936-2006) won Sanremo with Luciano Tajoli and Al di lá, that placed at Eurovision 5th out of 16. Both versions charted, as did Tony Dallara's version but the most popular became Emilio Pericoli's one, making it even #6 in the US! So, not only Volare, Italian Eurovision entries hit it big every now and then. Not only Pericoli charted in the US as also Connie Francis and The Ray Charles Singers made it a hit there. Mainly due to a 1962 film Rome adventure.
Betty Curtis with her class and elegance and jazzy vocals made it big in her early 20s. Her recording career slowed in the 1970's and she did only occasional appearances in the 1980's and 1990's and the last television one was in 2004. Eight albums, eight EPs, 90 singles, a few films, a lot of television until early 2000's, six Sanremos with 11 songs
