Italy took its well deserved third victory - finally! - at the Eurovision song contest 2021. Over the years several other Italian entries would have been worthy winners. In this series I will go through all of them from the worst ranking to the winners.
Nicola Di Bari (81) after many years brings a Sanremo winner to the Eurovision, I giorni dell'arcobaleno, even if in a different version from Sanremo in both arrangement and while the lyrics were censored in Sanremo they are only partly censored at Eurovision: no singing about 16 yrear old having already a lover. And he didn't do Eurovision because of being the Sanremo winner but yet again he was the Canzonissima winner. He placed 6th out of 18.
Nicola Di Bari's career as singer-songwriter started in the late 1950's and started gaining success in the mid 1960's. He came second in Sanremo first in 1965 and again in 1970 with La prima cosa bella (with Ricchi e Poveri), won in 1971 with Il cuore é uno zingaro and won again in 1972 with this Eurovision entry. In 1971 he also won Canzonissima, as mentioned above. After that he gained popularity in Latin America and slowly concentratd on this market recording several albums in Spanish.
