Here we go with the second semi-final of Festival da cancao 2023. You can read my thought about the first semi-final here.
Edmundo Inácio - A festa ****
He's one of the open call qualifiers and I certainly want to join his party. Lovely arrangement and rhythm, very nice voice. Latin inspired but not in the usual banal way. I hope the live staging and performance will be good!
The Happy Mess - O impossivel ***
Again very nice but quite forgettable. Not much to say, enjoyable while it's playing.
Teresinha Landeiro - Enquanto è tempo ***
Very classic old school, beautiful. Timeless.
Bandua - Bandeiras ***
Intriguing and interesting. Probably would suffer Telemóveis fate in Eurovision. But I like this a lot more, that was way too weird.
Bárbara Tinoco - Goodnight **
Why in English, why? Loses a lot becoming a song from any random national final anywhere. A song that doesn't bother the top of the scoreboard. Anywhere.
Inés Apenas - Fim do mundo **
Another open call qualifier. Interesting arrangement choices, lovely piano but that's it sadly.
Ivandro - Povo ****
I read somewhere he's one of the favorites and no wonder. The songs starts slowly and proves less is more but it still manages to get a hold on you. Different but very good. Might just be a good card for Eurovision, would certainly stand out.
Dapunksportif - World needs therapy *
No, just no. For too many reasons. Not my cup of tea at all. This screams semi-final bottom two in Liverpool.
Lara Li - Funâmbula ****
Now this is better, back to real Portuguese music. After 1980 and 1984 she's back at the festival. Great voice and feeling, beautiful song. Maybe not for Eurovision but very nice song.
Voodoo Marmalade - Tormento ***
Now this is an ear worm. I'm not sure if I'm happy for that. I just want to sing and clap along without even liking the song so much.... I'm confused.
Update:
The finalists are:
Edmundo Ignácio, Bárbara Tinoco, Inés Apenas, Ivandro, Voodoo Marmelade
and Dapunksportif qualified from the 2nd round of voting.
