ITALY: SANREMO 2021 - PRIMA SERATA

Sanremo 70+1 kicks off tonight, without live audience in Teatro Ariston for the very first time ever but the long night is filled with competing artists and many, many guests hosted by Amadeus with FiorelloZlatan Ibrahimović and tonight's hostess Matilda de Angelis.
Achille Lauro will be performing a number as every night and the other guests are last year's winner Diodato singing his Fai rumore again, Loredana Berté presenting her new single and a medley of her biggest hits, nurse Alessia Bonari, known for her social media working with Covid-19 patients and on top of all that Banda Musicale della Polizia di Stato with Olga Sakharova and Stefano Di Battista
A half of the 26 Big will premiere their songs tonight and be voted by the demoscopic jury. The ranking will be revealed in the end of the day.
Half of the Newcomers will also perform tonight and two out of four will make it to the final, voted by demoscopic jury (33%), press (33%) and televote (34%). No more duels but the first two in the ranking will make it.
Irama was supposed to be performing tonight but due to positive Covid-19 test in his entourage he is replaced tonight by Noemi and is due to perform tomorrow if tests negative.
Arisa will open the competition, just like she did in 2014 when she won.....
Fun starts 20.40 CET and is supposed to end 01.30 but we all know it's not going to happen ....

LIVE:

The evening started with the Newcomers selection and for a change I totally agree with the results:

Newcomers

Gaudiano - Polvere da sparo *****
Elena Faggi - Che ne so **
Avincola - Goal! ***
Folcast - Scopriti ****
Gaudiano and Folcast to Friday's final!

Amadeus and Fiorello open the Big part of the show with a cabaret number, followed by overjoyed Diodato performing again his winning song from last year.

Big

Colapesce e Dimartino - Musica leggerissima ****
Aiello - Ora ***
Francesca Michielin e Fedez - Chiamami per nome ****

Loredana Bertè show

Max Gazzé e la Trifluoperazina Monstery Band - Il farmacista ***
Noemi - Glicine ****

Achille Lauro show

Madame - Voce ***
Måneskin - Zitti e buoni **
Ghemon - Momento perfetto **
Coma_Cose - Fiamme negli occhi **
Annalisa - Dieci ****

Francesco Renga - Quando trovo te ***
Fasma - Parlami ***

And in the end Annalisa won the first night followed by Noemi and Fasma:

Summa summarum: A bit under toned show without stand out songs but Fiorello & Amadeus a couple that entertains even without the interaction with the live audience. Matilda shines, Zlatan not so much having only one joke that dragged way too long. On the other hand he has dragged it all his life, so I doubt it's going to change over the next few nights. Bertè was on fire and Diodato did a good job. Musta have been the first time I went to sleep after an hour or so and only checked the rest on Rai Play today, simply because I wasn't kept hooked on as usual. 11,2 million Italians were watching or (46,4%) that is down from last year's figures.
Irama, who was supposed to perform tonight (replaced by Noemi) and postponed to tomorrow is in danger of disqualification due to a positive Covid-19 test in his entourage according rules.

Sabina Babayeva for Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani selection show for the represant was as long as the selection process for the five finalists. Kurt Calleja from Malta and Can Bonomo from Turkey were present with Ell/Nikki to see Sabina Babayeva to emerge as the winner after each and every finalist had done about zillion songs amongst other guests. Now the Azeri TV will shop around a suitable song for her.

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

FINLAND: LORDI RELEASES SEXORCISM - THEIR 9TH STUDIO ALBUM

Brand new studio album SEXORCISM is released tomorrow, 12 years and 5 days after their monstreous victory in Athens 2006 Eurovision song contest. It is quite possibly the most controversial Lordi album yet and already their 9th stuido album (plus three compilations and one Ep)

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

THE ABBA REUNION 2016 - WATCH THEM SING TOGETHER AGAIN

The 2016 Eurovision song contest organizers didn't manage it - or any of the previous ones either nor those offering them millions of dollars - but they seem to get together for birthdays, the way the old friends do. Back in 1999 they performed together in a private party for Görel Hansel's 50th birthday, and now to celebrate the first meeting of Björn and Benny 50 years ago. Venue was Stockholm's Bern's Salonger and once again in a private setting but today even they can't stop the cell phone videos and social medias. Enjoy the magic of Frida's and Agnetha's voices again.

FINLAND: REMEMBERING KIRKA

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o...

UK: Naked Blue

The boys of Blue have posed nude again. This time for the Attitude magazine's annual Naked issue and they are also in the cover. Watch the video of the shooting here . Band member Duncan, who is bi-sexual, recently told The Daily Star : “We are getting our kit off for Attitude magazine like the McFly boys did. I’m up for showing everything off. I’m happy enough about the size of my manhood. ” Extra media attention won't hurt their changes in Germany to win it for the UK for the first time since 1997... They will and they can!

Nina Badrić for Croatia

Croatian TV went for internal selection in the end and chose Nina Badrić. She has been around for almost 20 years and has released ten albums between 1995 and 2011. She has also treid to get to Eurovision four times already without a win (1993, 1994, 1995 and 2003). She is popular also in the other ex-Yogoslavian countries so let those 12s run in.... Listen her here: Moje oci pune ljubavi , Dat ce nam Bog , Nebo and Mama . And lovely Carobno jutro .

ESC 2015 NORWAY: LISTEN TO THE FINALISTS

The Norwegian entries are now and there to listen, or here . This time Norway has only one off final with 11 songs and a live orchestra, so it will be interesting to hear how these songs will turn out as most are rather modern sounding and not so Eurovisionesque midtempo numbers. There could have been also only ten if they had dropped that joke entry from the line up. The old veterans Elisabeth and Tor have nothing to be ashamed among this lot. To be honest I didn't get excited by any of these really...  Something is wrong in my books  if a classic schlager like Heaven sounds almost the best... What's wrong Norway?
