ITALIAN EUROSTARS AND SANREMO 5: RICCHI E POVERI

Ricchi e Poveri counts 12 participations in Sanremo between 1970 and 1992, and represented Italy in the Eurovision song contest 1978 with one of this blogger's favorites, Questo amore. It didn't go that well home with the European jurors (12th) but in the 1980's they scored several hits in Europe and selling millions of records. In the 2000's they enjoy fame and success in Russia and the region. Originally they were a quartet Angela, Angelo, Franco and Marina, but when apparently Marina was getting a bit too close to Angela's hubby she was sacked and the trio went on without her and do so even today, after 46 years (and even more if you count the years before adopting this name and first success).
Their biggest hit no doubt is Sará perche ti amo, that failed to win Sanremo but was a worldwide hit also in Spanish version by them selling over 7 million copies, and counts dozens of cover versions in various languages. What if Italy had sent that to Eurovision in 1981 when they didn't participate? Also in 1985 when they won Sanremo Italy didn't participate but their Se m'innamoro would have been an awesome entry! Other hits include Mamma Maria, Piccolo amore, Come vorrei, Voulez vous dancer and Ciao Italy, ciao amore. Their latest single is Perdutamente amore.
The trio returned to recording studio in 2012 and released their 18th album after 14 years break including some new songs and new versions of their biggest hits. Meanwhile they have been touring the globe with success performing their classics. In 2013 they were invited back to Sanremo to receive an award for the career, but they had to cancel - Franco's 22-year-old son was found dead the night before.
Here ae their Sanremo songs: 1970 La prima cosa bella (2.), 1971 Che sará (2.), 1972 Un diadema di ciliegie (11.), 1973 Dolce frutto (4.), 1976 Due storie di musicanti (13.), 1981 Sará perche ti amo (4.), 1985 Se m'innamoro (winner), 1987 Canzone d'amore (7.), 1988 Nascerá Gesú (9.), 1989 Chi voglio sei tu (8.), 1990 Buona giornata (finalist), 1992 Cosi lontani (non finalist)
This blogger has always a special place for this group in his heart; thanks to them I started learning Italian!
Franco Gatti, the Moustache, turns 71 today, happy birthday! Auguri!

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

EUROVISION 2025 PORTUGAL: FESTIVAL DA CANCAO - LISTEN TO THE SONGS

Portugal sticks to its already familiar selection system and Festival da Canção, A total of 633 submission were made for the open call songs and six were selected along with the 14 invited composers. As always, the composers have free hands to pick up an artist and a song. As usual there are two semi-final (on February 22 and March 1) and the grand final on March 8, 2025. The composers were announced early November and the artists and song titles later. Invited composers - who in most cases ended up performing themselves their song. It's good to hear Portugal still goes on its own path and musical style with very few exceptions to the rule. Then there's Henka milking the Käärijä/Bambie Thug thing - but I cenrtainly don't wish to hear a song like this from Portugal of all places -  and Emmy Curl going all musical while Bombazine takes us to nostalgic trip to 70's disco.  The voting in semi-finals is 50/50 jury/televote + one more added by televote only. A Cantadeira - Re...

ESC 2016 BELARUS: NAKED WITH WOLVES?

Today's funniest Eurovision related story comes from Belarus. Some sources claim Ivan wants to perform on stage naked and with live wolf or wolves. It surely would be a first on Eurovision stage! We have seen some forgotten underwear over the years, and some cardbox animals though..... Is it time to take things a bit further?  No, according the rules live animals are not allowed, and Eurovision being a family show nudity won't do either. (It seems to be ok to be half naked if you are a dancer though..... )

EUROVISION 2025 ITALY: IT'S LUCIO CORSI FOR EUROVISION 2025

As Olly has decided not to use his ticket to Eurovision song contest 2025 in Basel after winning Sanremo with Balorda nostalgia the right and honor goes to runner up Lucio Corsi and maybe now it's time to say I'm pleased after all. I never quite connected with Balorda nostalgia and Olly without autotune... I'm not so sure how that would have sounded in the end. Lucio Corsi's song is very pleasant, his look memorable and all in all he provokes some sort of tenderness and will to like him. He's just Luco as he says, nothing less, nothing more. Lucio (31) may have been pretty unknown to great public and certainly not a household name before Sanremo, I for one had never ever heard of him before, but he's been doing music that mixes glamrock, fairytale themes and surreal lyrics since 2011 already. He has released four albums so far and the fifth one is coming in the end of March 2025. Add to EPs and eight singles, but 16 music videos.  On top of that he's been G...

EUROVISION 2025 ITALY: OLLY SAYS "NO" TO EUROVISION 2025

It was in the air and now it's real: Olly doesn't go to Eurovision. He explains on his social medias:  "I've been asking myself and asking everyone's opinions for days, the answer is always the same: "in the end you have to do what you feel", because everyone knows how much it means to me to be myself, always. Well, I don't think you would be sad if I moved concerts for Eurovision, but I firmly believe that I need to connect with everything that is happening to me, before looking even further ahead, before continuing with my beloved live apprenticeship that I always talk about with infinite pride. I have therefore decided to give up the opportunity to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest, with the awareness that it is one of those things that maybe only happen once in a lifetime. I thank those who voted for me and gave me the opportunity to have this privilege: I hope to see you soon at one of my concerts to reciprocate all the love I'm rece...

EUROVISION 2025 GERMANY: CHEFSACHE ESC - WER SINGT FUR DEUTSCHLAND?

The German selection is being done with collaboration of RTL and Stefan Raab. They have already declared if they don't win this year they will scrap the national final for good, or something. Yawn. Germany indeed has quite a remarkable run in the Eurovision song contest in the past ten years: four times last, three times second to last. Michael Schulte managed 4th in 2018 and last year surprisingly Isaak 12th.  Chefsache ESC 2025 – Wer singt für Deutschland? will have two heats (February 14 and 15), a semifinal (February 22) and the grand final on March 1, 2025. The 24 semi-finalists were chosen among the 3.281 wannabe artists, 1.198 with their own submitted songs, the others with a cover of their choice.  The chosen artists were announced on February 4, 2025: Abor & Tynna, Adina, Benjamin Braatz, Cage, Chase, Clody June, Cosby, Enny.Mae x Paragigm, Equa Tu, Fannie, Feuerschwanz, From Fall to Spring, Jaln, Janine, Jonathan Henrich, Julika, Leonora, Lyza, Moss Kena, NI-KA, ...

EUROVISION 2024 ARMENIA: PARG WINS DEPI EVRATESIL 2025

Armenia organized the national final Depi Evratesil again after few years but I must wonder why? The show for sounded a Moldovan auditions as there were so many shouty screamy performances, one lady in particular was searching for her notes full three minutes and another lady in white apparently twerked, but it looked like a newborn giraffe trying to stand up. Was it really them or was the sound off in the live show? Ok, this said the stage was pretty and they had put effort in most performances. Yet, when the last one came on stage she was a stand out looking and sounding professional even if the song  itself was missing; it was a stage show with choreography that even borrowed bits from her previous entry plus infamous Mirror mirror on the wall a bit too much. All that made the feeling of a medley half time show even more evident. I'm not a big fan of this kind of Eurovision entries. The other decent ones were Parg and Simon even if any of them need a lot of polishing to d...

EUROVISION 2025 ICELAND: VÆB WINS SÖNGVAKEPPNIN 2025

After two semi-finals Iceland had its Söngvakeppnin final with six qualifiers from those. As a change to previous years there were no wild card and no super final round but only 50/50 jury/televote. One thing didn't change: All songs were performed in Icelandic in semi-finals but for the final they could choose either Icelandic or English version of the song or the version they intended to perform in Basel should they win. Read more here . Last year's winner (and also 2010 Eurovision veteran Hera Björk was a guste star with Finland's own Eurovision runner up Käärijä with Swedish Hooja. Final results (jury/televote): Væb - Róa ( 74 + 93) 167 Stebbi Jak - Set me free (57 + 85) 142 Júlí and Dísa - Fire (63 + 74) 137 Bjarni Arason -  Aðeins lengur (44 + 39) 83 Tinna -  Words (53 + 22) 74 Ágúst -  Like you (45 + 23) 68

MALTA: CLAUDIA FANIELLO RELEASES BREATHLESSLY IN ITALIAN, PERDERSI

Not only Estonians, but also Claudia Faniello from Malta has released her Eurovision entry in Italian, titled Perdersi, even in two different versions! And unlike Koit and Laura Claudia has no problem with Italian pronunciation being of Italian origins..... Listen to the ballad and the more rhythmic radio version here
