EUROVISION 2022: ISRAEL - HASHIR SHELANU L'EUROVIZION 2022 REVIEW

The very long marathon comes to an end finally and what we have left is four artists, each with two songs. After a voting on February 3 we will find out which one of their two songs they will take to the February 5 final. Let's see what they offer us as their own songs after all those covers! I'm glad they didn't jump on the rock train nor went all 80's bubble gum pop, but at the same time sad for lacking songs in Hebrew and proper local flavor, and where there's a bit of it it's not in the best songs.
Let's see how this ends. Last year Eden Alene won with my favorite song against all odds when fandom was backing all but that song, so.... What do I know?
Two more shows to come: Thursday a sort of semi-final where each artist gets the top song to Saturday's final, where a Spain like jury (50% televote, 25% X Factor jury, 25% expert jury) will crown the winner.

Sapir Saban - Breaking my own walls ***
Rather standard power anthem that differs only the way of using her voice adding a nice oriental hint to it with other arrangement choices that are always a plus in my book. Still I was left missing a bit more.
Sapir Saban - Head up ***
The oriental mood continues in her other song, that reminds a bit of Eden Alene's entries. In a good way. I would choose this one for her for the final.
Inbal Bibi - Marionette **
Typical Eurovision entry of 2020's, shouty singing, massive production, some nonsense bla bla bla thrown in. I guess what the young people are into these days. I'm not.
Inbal Bibi - Zaza **
Why am I thinking Eden Alene again? A bit more interesting entry this one, probably works well live with a big staging but song wise there isn't that much sense in this one either. This said I would choose this for the final.
Eli Huli - Nostalgia ****
The intro recalls Arcade and he even sounds a bit like Duncan Laurence, and when I drop names and songs it doesn't mean they are imitations or whatsoever, just impressions and easiest way to describe something is to compare, isn't it? After that start this song goes clearly elsewhere reaching even Bond-esque moments when it keeps building and unfolding. Wonderful atmosphere, nostalgic indeed and probably will sound even better live. I would take the risk and take this to final even if I think the other one will get the ticket. And I would even send this to Turin 2022.
Eli Huli - Blinded dreamers ***
Today's pop with more adventurous arrangement with a lot of little things going on in the background. I wouldn't be surprised if this written by some Swedes, could be easily out of Melodifestivalen. Any random year.
Michael Ben David - I.M ***
Michael that I checked out in early stages of X Factor was singing beautiful ballads with his very lovely voice, like this one. During the season he blossomed into the gayest entertainer there is and I'm not so sure I'm pleased. This song has all makings of a spectacular show that sadly would be once again a lot of show, not so much of song. It's a no from me. He's so much better than this. Love the oriental bits though.
Michael Ben David - Don't ****
His other song is rather anonymous yet nice pop tune that does nothing to highlight his voice which is a big shame. This could be sung by anyone, I hope he brings some extra to it live then. I can only hope this one's selected for the final though, and he concentrates on singing and performing instead of going all gay and over the top. Then this would be my second contender for Turin 2022.

Update 3.2.2022 The results:

Michael Ben David: I.M Vs. Don't  83% Vs. 17%
Eli Huli: Nostalgia Vs. Blinded dreams 33% Vs. 67%
Inbal Bibi: Marionette Vs. ZAZA 53% Vs. 47%
Sapir Saban: Breaking my own walls Vs. Head up 69% Vs. 31%

Sabina Babayeva for Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani selection show for the represant was as long as the selection process for the five finalists. Kurt Calleja from Malta and Can Bonomo from Turkey were present with Ell/Nikki to see Sabina Babayeva to emerge as the winner after each and every finalist had done about zillion songs amongst other guests. Now the Azeri TV will shop around a suitable song for her.

SONGS OF THE YEAR 2015: #5 KRISTA SIEGFRIDS - ON & OFF

Krista Siegfrids is delivering nice pop tunes one after another and this one is particularly catchy and soon you will be singing along..... Hopefully her Melodifestivalen entry will be equally good!

FINLAND: LORDI RELEASES SEXORCISM - THEIR 9TH STUDIO ALBUM

Brand new studio album SEXORCISM is released tomorrow, 12 years and 5 days after their monstreous victory in Athens 2006 Eurovision song contest. It is quite possibly the most controversial Lordi album yet and already their 9th stuido album (plus three compilations and one Ep)

ESC 2016 WISH LIST: MARGARET FOR POLAND

Małgorzata Jamroży aka Margaret has also been tipped for Eurovision and apparently she did turn it down but she'd be perfect. She's got a look and persona you can't unnotice nor forget, she's got hit songs, she has been voted or nominated for everything from Trendy artist to the Hope of the Year, Fashion Icon and Glamour Woman of the year besides the usual best video, song, album, debut..... Oh she's also a fashion designer! She's very clever with social medias and would surely use it to her advantage if selected for Stockholm 2016. Her debut album is titled Add the blonde , do we need to say more? Except it includes mostly Swedish written pop tunes like Tell me how are ya , Wasted , Start a fire and Heartbeat . And of course her debut single and internationally noticed Thank you very much that you can enjoy below with all its anti-textil feel. I think she's Eurovision perfection, she's cheeky and fun, can we have her?

THE ABBA REUNION 2016 - WATCH THEM SING TOGETHER AGAIN

The 2016 Eurovision song contest organizers didn't manage it - or any of the previous ones either nor those offering them millions of dollars - but they seem to get together for birthdays, the way the old friends do. Back in 1999 they performed together in a private party for Görel Hansel's 50th birthday, and now to celebrate the first meeting of Björn and Benny 50 years ago. Venue was Stockholm's Bern's Salonger and once again in a private setting but today even they can't stop the cell phone videos and social medias. Enjoy the magic of Frida's and Agnetha's voices again.

FINLAND: REMEMBERING KIRKA

GOODBYE, FAREWELL...

The time has come. After all these years, 5,7 million visits, 12.000 articles I guess the time has come. As much as I love and care for Eurovision it just doesn't feel the same. The Corona years took their toll and the past two years and certain decisions have helped me to mature the idea that next year I will hear the songs for the first time in semi-final just like any so called local.  The bubble has burst. Add the toxicity in social medias and fandom. The arrogant teenagers who saw their first contest somewhere 2017 or even 2021 who think they know it all and only their opinion matters. Did I mention the toxic atmosphere on social medias? I'm too old for that sh*t. It's been a long ride that took me to various Eurovision on spot as a fan and tourist,  as a journalist, as a delegation member. I met some great people, made memories of lifetime. In stressful, sad periods of my life this blog has been my safe place, a place to escape and forget everything else for an hour o...

UK: Naked Blue

The boys of Blue have posed nude again. This time for the Attitude magazine's annual Naked issue and they are also in the cover. Watch the video of the shooting here . Band member Duncan, who is bi-sexual, recently told The Daily Star : “We are getting our kit off for Attitude magazine like the McFly boys did. I’m up for showing everything off. I’m happy enough about the size of my manhood. ” Extra media attention won't hurt their changes in Germany to win it for the UK for the first time since 1997... They will and they can!

Nina Badrić for Croatia

Croatian TV went for internal selection in the end and chose Nina Badrić. She has been around for almost 20 years and has released ten albums between 1995 and 2011. She has also treid to get to Eurovision four times already without a win (1993, 1994, 1995 and 2003). She is popular also in the other ex-Yogoslavian countries so let those 12s run in.... Listen her here: Moje oci pune ljubavi , Dat ce nam Bog , Nebo and Mama . And lovely Carobno jutro .

CZECH REPUBLIC: MARTINA BÁRTA PRESENTS MY TURN

Czech Republic's internally chosen Martina Bárta has released her entry My turn for the Eurovision as well today. Not sure if I managed to keep my attention level very high for very long when listening to it.... Shame.
