Slovenia - Hannah Mancini - Straight into love
American born Hannah does the honors for her adoptive Slovenia and I wasn't so into this one until they released the improved version along with the video (the previous simil live performance was lacking some oopmh, me thinks) Club anthems haven't really done so well in Eurovision and this may be way too hardcore for general European televoter - Euphoria was and is a schlager-like affair. The live performance will be crucial; her vocals, the staging. If they play the gay card like in the video it may easily turn against them, on the other hand if she's alone on stage.... I'm glad I'm not in charge of that as I wouldn't really know what to do with it! I like the song but I'm afraid Slovenia will miss the final once again even if it does stand out very well in the first semifinal between Estonia and Croatia.
Ukraine - Zlata Ognevich - Gravity
I loved Zlata with The Kukutshka but have had some trouble getting this Gravity. Actually I found the original national final version rather horrid. The final version is quite enjoyable and the video is stunning. Zlata is pretty and sings like and angel, the whole affair is very Disney-like. And this being Ukraine two things are for sure: they will put up a great show on stage (Zlata already hinted they have something up their sleeve) and they will qualify for the final. And maybe even reach the Top-10 once again. Not that I really think they deserve it this time, as the song is a bit dull and uninpsired in my book, even if very clever. But I have a soft spot for Zlata herself, so...
Germany - Cascada - Glorious
Cascada was supposed to be this year's big name, then came Bonnie Tyler and stole her spotlight. They do have a glorious past, and did this genre already before Loreen even dreamed about it. Watching her national final performance I was kinda surprised to see how shaky it was, especially in the beginning. And her choice of wardrobe wasn't maybe the most flattering either. A big fan favorite it seems but I have serious doubts. The song is rather monotonous and repetitive but will surely go down well in the arena - but will it come across the TV-screens?
