Tu bije serce Europy! Wybieramy hit na Eurowizję! Tonight it's Poland turn to choose their entry for Liverpool's Eurovision song contest 2023. The ten finalists are chosen among the around 300 submissions between September 2022 and February 2023, and TVP hold the right to invite a wildcard if they wished so. Interestingly, the artists submitting song were recommended to take part in the song writing. And yet, it seems only half of them actually have done so.....
Among the artists Alicja, the third one from the 2020 cancelled edition trying to get to the main stage. Ulrikke (Norway) and Damir (Croatia) have failed already, how will she do?
Jann and his Gladiator has already created a fuss in the fandom and seems to be the front runner at least in the Eurovision fan bubble. Get ready for (another) social media meltdown if he doesn't win..... Blanka seems to having the most streams though.
There will be also many guest stars from jury member and best Polish placing (2nd/1994) holder Edyta Gorniak, Euroviison reigning champions Kalush Orchestra from Ukraine, last year's participant Ochman, random Azeri participant 2021 Efendi as well as Greek Stefania from same edition plus two Polish Junior Eurovision participants: Sara James, the runner up in 2021 and the winner Roksana of 2018 edition.
All in all Poland has put a very solid national final.
Natasza - Lift you up **
Middle of the road pop song. Not much happening. Very forgettable.
Kuba Szmajkowski - You do me ***
Another standard pop song but somewhat more interesting, and at least there's some development in the structure. You do me takes immediately to UMK's Hoida mut (Do me) by Benjamin, but that's all they have in common really.
Ahlena - Booty *
I really really really wonder why this is here? I really really really don't want that!
Dominik Dudek - Be good ****
A kind of feel good song, cacthy and really very un-original but it works. Not sure about the video though but that's another matter I suppose....
Alicja Szemplinska - New home ****
Her low voice is quite fabulous. When I heard the snippet I was like No no no, but I must say I was quite fascinated by this now. There's nothing like this in the line up so far in Liverpool, so this might be a good choice. Juries would buy this for sure.
Felivers - Never back down ***
Pop rock saved by the catchy chorus and extra points for the rap in Polish, but..... No. I guess we have already enough indie bands in Liverpool, and they just might be better. Then again, the chorus is catchy.... I really wanted not to like this one, but....
Maja Hyzy - Never hide ***
Somewhat Melodifestivalen. But I like her vibe. The song actually gets better towards the end and I enjoy this maybe more than I should. This Polish selection is turning out to be quite strong!
Jann - Gladiator ***
Why I think this is a Loreen song? I'm curious to see the staging but as a song itself I don't think this will stay long in my playlist if it ever gets included in the first place. Quite original, true, but sometimes originality for the sake of it turns soon annoying.
Blanka - Solo ****
Judging the video and the song this could rather be the Cypriot or Greek entry. But it's standard summer song, so unoriginal and easy that this could easily become a hit in Italy or Spain for example if she went there to perform this in a right program in right time. So easy.
Yan Majewski - Champion *
This sound sold before it starts. Heard a million times before and never went anywhere.
