The Danish national final for the Eurovision song contest takes places next Saturday 11 (among many others). In the first round the top-3 voted by the public will go on to the second round of voting, this time 50/50 televote/jury vote. Denmark has won three times, last in 2014 and has since reached the final 3 (+1) times and hasn't 4 times. How will it go this time?
Eyjaa - I was gonna marry him ****
This Icelandic-Danish effort includes among others Greta Salóme in violin and string, and develops nicely, sounds lovely and reminds of some older Nordic entries. That piano, whistling, those vocals. All is very etheric, beautiful and could have listened this more than those three minutes. This could do Denmark pround in Liverpool.
Frederik Leopold - Stuck on you ***
Kind of groovy song Robin has in Finland, this one remind me of Toto for some reason?! More American maybe and more 80's clean cut studio sound. And in all that rather anonymous, kinda nice to listen to while this is on, but do I remember something after? Not much. I doubt this would go far in Liverpool.
Maia Maia - Beautiful bullshit *** 1/2
Eurovision veteran Joy Deb is among the songwriters in this number that sounds somewhat familiar but you can't quite put your finger on how and why? Nothing much really happens, the songs keeps rolling its lenght and it's quite enjoyable and could be some random album track for Lady Gaga. Propably would be a fan favorite in Liverpool, one of those that bomb.
Mariyah LeBerg - Human **
Not a fan her way of singing but apparently that's only human. A kind of sing-a-long song by the campfire where a lot depends on her stage presence and charisma. If she has it she could as well end up winning considering how Danes have voted last year for example. But not for me and in Liverpool similar result to last year perhaps?
Micky Steel - Glansbillede ***
First notes recall Robbie Williams but then we go more Aud Wilken, then several other Danish entries in recent times. Pleasant three minutes but could do without those hey shouts. Feel good song and in Danish is a big bonus. This could do well but hardly a winner. Or if it is, then in Liverpool Denmark won't be among the favorites for sure.
Nicklas Sonne - Freedom **
The harder music is almost totally absent this year in the national finals, so should Denmark choose this one they would have at least a bit extra support. But is this good? No. A lot of noise but lacks melody, energy and even vocals. Maybe this comes alive on stage but now it's quite meh. Or maybe as a Finn I'm spoiled?
Reiley - Breakin my heart *
The disqualification affair behind him he's here. A lot of autotune and the weirdest and most annoying start of a song in the contest. And this doesn't get any better nor go anywhere. Less than 3 minutes of some random beat and lyrics thrown over it. No. Just no. I suppose this won't be any better live.
Søren Torpegaard Lund - Lige her ***
Among the authors there's Tim Schou Nielsen, is that Tim Schou we know? Could be, sounds abit like some of his stuff. This one's a different one, too, a bit Disney, a bit 50's evergreens covered, dreamy and musical/movie like. Could be a different choice for Liverpool, and could be a hit if staging and vocals are on top. Hmmm.... Better play it with a risk or try with a safe? I wouldn't mind hearing this in Liverpool (if I can't have Eyjaa).
