Switzerland - Gjon's Tears - Répondez-moi
One of those songs I think I should like more but in the end, no I don't. A big plus for bringing something in French instead of English, and something original and different that isn't manufactured to fit the Eurovision formula written in some random international songwriting camp (even if apparently it is....). Original, haunting, beautiful ... but for me there's something missing to make it a standout song and a winner like it was in the various betting odds pre-cancellation. On the other hand the first hearing felt a lot better than it is after a few hearings and people who vote... Well, we will never know! 8/10
Belarus - VAL - Da vidna
The national final performance in the preview video isn't the best I have seen. There's something about them and their song that I really like, and this plays often in my headradio. This could have been a surprise success in Rotterdam, maybe. I mean a finalist and not the last in the end, if staged and performed well. Extra point for singing in Belarusian. 8/10
Spain - Blas Cantò - Universo
I wasn't that impressed when this was released among the very first songs. Then slowly, slowly it has climbed higher and higher and plays often in my head. A solid song, catchy enough and sound not similar to the others. With a good staging and performance this could have done pretty well. He will be back next year, with something totally different he says. Hmm... 8/10
France - Tom Leeb - Mon alliée (The best in me)
When the original version was released from the Eiffel Tower the fandom reacted negativily in unison. My only negative feeling were for too much English. And compared to Tom's previous works it was rather overproduced and massive indeed. But I never hated the song itself to be honest and always liked his voice a lot. All that negativity lead to a new version with more French and stripped down more acoustic version. However this works best with Tom and his guitar alone really, as his style is. I still think this would have done a lot better than the fandom thinks. 9/10
