Ireland, once the dominatrix of Eurovision has lost it completely in the past twenty years or so, and every year they say they're back on top and then.... Well..... At least they do participate. This year out of 320 submissions they chose these six for the final and once can only wonder if they had a clear vision of bringing Eurosong back to he 80's or did they think they're stepping ahead being clever when 80's is coming back more and more every year. Let's hear what they have come up this time below.
The Irish final takes place as usual at Late Late Show on Friday night February 4, 2022.

Brendan Murray - Real love **
Brendan who seems to want to forget he ever took part in Eurovision is aiming for another try.This time with a song he co-wrote himself. It's like all his post-Eurovision releases: Pleasant but forgettable. His recognizable voice makes this stand out a bit among all similar songs but that's it. Actually I kinda liked his 2017 song....
Miles Graham - Yeah, we're gonna get out of it **
When your first thought is Daz Sampson when the song starts we are in trouble. I have always hated that sort of "child choir" thing going on. The arrangement is rather groovy and the kids grow up to a tiny bit of gospel feeling before the annoying kids are back again. Are we ever gonna get out of this song? Long three minutes.....
Brooke Scullion - That's rich ***
Full early 80's explosion with clear Blondie influences. This brings so many memories back but do the very young fandom get this? The televoters across Europe might buy this, even if this isn't so good as a song but if Brooke delivers live and it's not overdone with too much going on on stage this should win hands down. And this needs a revamp and better production but not any kind of modernization!
Patrick O'Sullivan - One night, one kiss, one promise **
Straight to the 80's again and Mr.Mister's repertoire. But this isn't Kyrie nor Broken wings, but could work on a full arena like a real 80's bangers did back in the day. I would say this is Ireland's second best choice.
Rachel Goode - I'm loving me *****
And we just dig deeper and deeper to the 80's. This is so wonderfully camp and kitch I'm loving this. She sings straight from the paper still learning the lyrics trying to pronounce well and fit in all the words without a trace of emotion. That could be though hard to do with lyrics like this. The arrangement and production is heavenly old fashioned bringing me back to days when I was just discovering Eurovision so what's there not to love for an old fart like me? I would just send this to Turin 2022 if it was up to me and see what happens, but then again.... Oh well.... A guilty pleasure heaven this is.
Janet Grogan - Ashes of yesterday **
Pure Melodifestivalen reject in every note. Probably offered to The Mamas or someone like that. Heard a million times, very manufactured feel and I can already see the staging with fake gospel choir walking ahead circling her for the bridge..... Yawn.
