Italy took its well deserved third victory - finally! - at the Eurovision song contest 2021. Over the years several other Italian entries would have been worthy winners. In this series I will go through all of them from the worst ranking to the winners.
Alan Sorrenti (71) was chosen by Rai for Eurovision 1980 probably thanks to his success in recent years with Figli delle stelle and Tu sei l'unica donna per me. The Eurovision entry was however Non so che darei and it's very fashionable staging took it to the 6th place among 19 entries, among them Morocco.
Welsh-Napoletan Alan grew up in Wales and has sung both Italian and English throughout his career, that started in the early 1970's with experimental and progressive rock. The success came however with more dance oriented and even disco tracks in the late 1970's. His career comes to a stop in 1983 and it includes a young Swede, his American model wife and some heroin. He tries comeback in Sanremo 1988, his only appearance, without much success. A few singles and a couple of albums have followed in vain and today you can easiest spot him in some 80s revival happening.
Sanremo 1980 was won by Toto Cutugno and Solo noi, his only win out of 15 entries but he finished second six times!
