Malta has released their finalists today as lyric videos (that are rather scary at times and amateurish to say the truth) and announced a change in the voting system. Instead of 100% televote that was experimented last year and finally gave Claudia Faniello a win, has been cancelled this time around and there wil be 50-50 televote-jury vote instead.
Below you can listen to the songs that are.... erm... sadly rather unoriginal, stereotype Eurovision pop, forgettable and uninteresting. Not many survived the crucial "if I lose my interest in first 30 seconds" test.... "Nice" is the word in most cases, but that's not enough and won't take that far. All songs sound so similar in production it makes wonder if one team did them all? Even trustable balladeer Lawrence Gray falls to the same sound. This said, Matthew sticks out a little, but needs a perfect staging and vocal performance - can he handle it? Dwett has a lovely piano and it's so sugary and sweet it's already kinda great, Eleanor delivers as always, Tiziana has a nice country vibe (and sounds like poor man's Claudia), Miriana also gets some attention, not sure if for the right reasons though. The only one with a different sound, and not a surprise for that, is the Micallef family effort, and therefor like a breath of fresh air among all these wannabe radio pop hits.
