This episode was one of the most awaited by this blogger as I'm a huge Maija Vilkkumaa fan. I was curiously waiting how these artists would treat her usually rather aggressive pop-rock songs, most sticking very much to the same formula. And indeed they all arranged them in an all new way, making them all quite different from the original. All had picked up one of her biggest hits and from her solo career.
Pave Maijanen Vs. Maija Vilkkumaa - Satumaa tango
Maija originally had wanted Pave as the producer for her debut solo album but he had turned the offer down. Now he gave us a taste how it could have been in this more middle-of-the-road version of her first hit. More polished, tuned down if compared to Maija's in-your-face approach.
Vicky Rosti Vs. Maija Vilkkumaa - Ingalsin Laura
Vicky turned this another angry song into an American line dancing kind of country schlager, but her voice fits is perfectly without the need of being angry-aggressive like Maija's original.
Antti Tuisku Vs. Maija Vilkkumaa - Lottovoitto
This turned into modern electropop meets r'n'b and Antti gives a very touching vocal performance that leaves most everyone stunned and Maija speechless that doesn't happen often. Important lyrics and theme and he nailed it perfectly.
Sanni Vs. Maija Vilkkumaa - Ei
Sanni, a huge fan of Maija ever since she was a little girl performs her biggest hit turning it into modern electro pop and this fits her voice perfectly, could ne her own song. No wonder she insisted on having this song. Maija reveals she's been closely following Sanni's career as well.
VilleGalle Vs. Maija Vilkkumaa - Totuutta ja tehtävää
All angry rap with sampled vocals by Maija in the chorus. New rap parts by VilleGalle that got his fellow young musicians Sanni and Antti very touched. Sanni sais she can totally identify her life and career in those words, too. Quite a few wet eye corners after this explosion.
Anssi Kela Vs. Maija Vilkkumaa - Luokkakokous
Anssi wrote a song with the same theme (1972) and Maija later had doubts should she write this or not as it's like a sister song to that one. These two are also the only real heavy rock and Anthrax fans here and Anssi belted it out with real trash metal arrangement bringing Maija back to her youth. The younger artists were a bit buzzled what was that all about.....
In the end she chose VilleGalle's rap as the duet song "as she would have a proper space on it".
